About The Opportunity


We are partnering with our valued client in finding a new Senior Financial Reporting Accountant to add to their team. This organization is a publicly traded, oil and gas company that is medium in size and has some very exciting plans coming down the pipe. Considering that; this is a newly created position based on forecasted workflow.


Reporting to a bright, smart, competent, and tenured Director of Finance, along with support from all levels of senior management, this group has a very progressive culture/environment, with very generous hybrid working arrangements and flexibility/autonomy. The ideal candidate will be a fast thinker who likes to solve problems and is able to multi-task and prioritize work effectively.


The successful candidate will be responsible for or assist with the following:


  • Support maintenance of key operational accounting functions, including review of other team member’s work: reconciliations, AP, AR, accruals, deposits, monitoring AFE’s
  • Monthly consolidation and reconciliations, including preparation of the cash flow reconciliation
  • Research and implementation of changes to securities regulations and review of securities filings
  • Project work including process improvement and financial systems upgrades and implementations
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statement notes and MD&A
  • Technical accounting research, preparation of memorandums, and implementation of new accounting policies
  • Review filings, press releases, and presentations containing financial data
  • Assist with the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and yearly consolidated financial statements/associated working papers
  • Accounting for depletion and depreciation, asset retirement obligations, share-based compensation, business combinations, and other transactions as they arise
  • Prepare tax returns depending on the company’s needs
  • Completion of all GST/PST examinations
  • Assist in financial modeling and forecasting
About You


The successful candidate will have the following:


  • CPA designation is absolutely required for this with a preference for a CA focused CPA or similar, relative, on hand working experience
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. GAAP and IFRS
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deliver on strict timelines
  • Experience with financial modeling and forecasting
  • Knowledge of auditing practices and principles
  • Post-secondary qualifications resulting in a diploma or a degree in commerce or business with a focus on accounting
  • Strong (8+ years) finance or accounting experience
  • Exposure to a SOX compliant environment with strong knowledge of internal controls
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Attention to details and accuracy, with a high ability to problem solve independently
  • Comfortable with public speaking and presenting internally on financial results and special projects
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
