Job Description

Position: Community Worker

Salary/Hours: $15.50/hr for 35 hrs/week for 8 weeks - with ability to work evenings and weekends

Location: Hybrid 70% In-person in the Willowdale community and 30% Virtual


Position Summary: Are you a passionate and empathetic individual who wants to make a difference in your community? NeighbourLink North York is seeking six Community Workers to join our dynamic team for an exciting eight-week opportunity. Reporting to the Executive Director, as a Community Worker, you will work collaboratively with other NeighbourLink staff and have the chance to plan, coordinate, and deliver programs that help support our neighbours. This includes programming at the food hub, mobile food distribution, youth program, youth mobilization and volunteer coordination.


Details: The Community Worker will be primarily responsible for:


Program Management (60%)

  • Determining the gaps in service delivery and recommending strategies for improvement.
  • Planning, implementing, executing and evaluating NeighbourLink programming
  • Ensuring that the programs and services are effective in meeting the needs of our clients
  • Communicating with clients/caregivers via phone, email and text message when necessary.
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory health and safety requirements.
  • Collaborating with all NeighbourLink staffto provide appropriate support and develop plans for programming
  • Due to the nature of our work some home visits to clients may be required, if working with food hub or outreach
  • Establishing an atmosphere of respect and dignity in all programs that includes ensuring confidentiality, and creating a welcoming and respectful environment for everyone
  • Develop and deliver internal and external information sessions.


Communications and Administration (20%)

  • Engaging with community partners, including churches, supporting organizations, local businesses and neighbours to support the program. This is to be done in collaboration with other teams to ensure no overlap occurs.
  • Reporting on trends and priorities needed for our clients in the community
  • Perform other relevant duties
  • Track expenses in line with program budgets
  • Providing updates to the leadership team at weekly staff meetings.


People Management (20%)

  • Overseeing Client-Volunteer interactions to ensure clear program delivery expectations and outcomes.
  • Ensuring that all staff and volunteers create a non-judgmental environment for program delivery
  • Collaborating with the NeighbourLink staffto ensure that best practices are integrated in training and orientation.
  • Ensuring staff coverage and appropriate ratios for safe program delivery.


Qualifications:

  • Ability to work well independently while contributing to a team environment.
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to inclusivity.
  • Superb organizational, project and time management, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Energetic, friendly, enthusiastic, patient and flexible.
  • Commitment to working for and with low-income people, diverse cultural groups and to the principles of anti-oppression, diversity and social justice work.
  • Must have the desire and ability to work with children in an indoor and outdoor setting - if signing up to work with the youth program
  • Excellent attention to detail; strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, research, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency on computer applications including Google Suite and Hubspot.
  • Able to multitask and demonstrate flexibility in taking on new tasks as they arise.
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector and with vulnerable populations.
  • A bachelor's degree or diploma in social work or related field.

  • Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and;
  • Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
