(Contractual Position to July 31, 2028)

DUTIES

Reporting to the Dean of Science, the successful applicant will be responsible for all aspects of the marketing and communications function for the Faculty of Science, including the coordination, preparation and dissemination of digital and written material. The successful applicant will work closely with the Division of Marketing and Communications and with other Faculty of Science staff including the Heads of Departments, the Senior Development Officer and the Academic Advising Officers. Duties include developing, coordinating and evaluating a marketing and communications plan for the Faculty of Science; compiling materials for and overseeing the production of publications including newsletters, Gazette articles, and other marketing reports; coordinating production of special publications and recruitment brochures as required; researching and writing of articles related to activities in the Faculty of Science; reviewing and editing content submitted for the Faculty of Science website; managing the quality, consistency, and relevance of the Faculty's website and social media channels; leading and/or assisting in the planning and marketing of major events as well as student recruitment activities; promoting faculty activities to internal and external stakeholders, including preparing news releases and feature stories; assisting in communications/media/public relations activities for other initiatives, events and conferences relating to the Faculty of Science; responding to internal and external requests for information relating to the Faculty of Science, including assisting the Dean and Associate Deans in the preparation of promotional talks and materials; and performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Considerable experience (3-5 years) in public relations, journalism or related work; graduation from university with major course work in a science discipline, public relations, journalism, or marketing; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Knowledge or experience in one or more academic disciplines of the Faculty of Science would be an asset. Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques used to disseminate information for promotional purposes to various audiences; excellent written and oral communication, interviewing, presentation, editing, and proofreading skills; and demonstrated experience using social media and websites as an integrated communications tool are required. Moderate graphic design skills; experience in communications project management, speech writing, media relations; using a variety of related print and electronic media; and experience working in the higher education sector would be assets.

SALARY $55,297 - $77,412 per annum (Management and Professional)
