CHIEF MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Reporting to the Mill Maintenance Superintendent, the Chief Mechanical Engineer role is managing the team of mechanical engineers and reliability technicians to maximize the reliability of the plant's equipment. The Chief Mechanical Engineer plays a key role in meeting and exceeding the plant's production, availability, cost and health & safety’s objectives. The latter is responsible to improve plant reliability by optimizing the maintenance strategy, by troubleshooting recurring issues and implement permanent solutions and by implementing industry best maintenance practices.
Key Responsibilities
Area 1:
Lead, develop and manage the mechanical engineering team.
  • Build and lead a dynamic team focused planning, data analytics, effective communication and continuous improvement.
  • Provide clear work objectives and expectations of performance levels to achieve business plans and production goals.
  • Ensure current and future training requirements are met and develop clear progression paths for the team.
  • Ensure that the necessary manpower and materials are in place to achieve the objectives within the planned costs.
  • Promote a high-performance culture by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback and coaching.
  • Create space for your team to be effective in delivering results and foster an inclusive work environment.
  • Mentor and coach team members to impart best practices in all mechanical engineering activities.
  • Actively engage in recruiting and developing a diverse team of engineers and technicians in accordance with the organizational design strategy.
Area 2
Lead and oversee the development and implementation of reliability-based maintenance program.
  • Use the CMMS (Oracle eAM) to extract datas to work on the bad actors
  • Oversee the development of fixed asset strategies
  • Develop standards jobs, methods and procedures for maintenance and operation of mechanical equipment.
  • Conduct troubleshooting of various equipment when a major breakdown occurs in order to find the root cause and implement a permanent solution
  • Provide expert advice on site on mechanical engineering procedures and practices related to mechanical maintenance.
  • Assist the Mill Maintenance Superintendent in setting the way forward and developing medium to long term business and maintenance strategies.
  • Participate in collaboration with the Mill Maintenance Superintendent in the development of budgets, forecasts and LOM.
  • Prepare scope of work for contract negotiation and evaluate tenders for service contract
  • Work collaboratively with the Mill Chief Planner in the maintenance planning and scheduling cycle for routine as well as extended duration shutdowns, ensuring jobs are properly prioritized, that adequate resources are acquired, and that resources usage is optimized to minimize the shutdown durations while meeting and exceeding the target availability between scheduled shutdowns.
  • Oversee the development of standards, methods and procedures for maintenance and operation of mechanical equipment.
  • Seek and implement best-in-class practices.
Area 3
Lead and oversee projects, modifications and budgets related to mechanical engineering.
  • Control and monitor the work of mechanical activities by checking the state of progress on the field, compliance of the plans and specifications issued and analyzing the results of completed work.
  • Perform technical and economic analysis of mechanical plans and designs.
  • Responsible for implementing the change management process at the plant, evaluating, prioritizing and implementing change requests.
  • Analyze and interpret plans and designs to ensure alignment with operational objectives.
  • Oversee data and statistical inputs to adjust plan accordingly.
  • Evaluate trade-offs and recommend solutions.
  • Prepares reports and written materials related to technical recommendation and improvements to mechanical plans and design.
Area 4
Lead others in a collaborative environment to deliver innovative continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct research and benchmarking to support decision-making and improve mechanical processes, technologies and methodologies used for the operation.
  • Keep abreast of trends in mechanical engineering and impart to Cote Gold.
  • Seek and implement best-in-class practices.
  • Identify training and development opportunities for the team.
  • Provide new approaches, methods or policies to optimize performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational standards.
  • Propose new methods to meet challenges of mechanical engineering.
  • Continuously seek to improve technical knowledge and skills.
Job Qualifications
Minimum Requirements And Nice To Haves
minimum qualifications, formal education, certifications or equivalents
  • Post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
  • Registration (or eligibility to register) as an Engineer in Ontario (PEO).
Work experience - Nature & Length
  • A minimum of 8 years of related work experience.
  • Previous experience in open pit mining or mineral processing (specifically gold processing) is considered an asset.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a team leader.
