Data Engineer Jobs

The data engineer leads the design and development of data pipelines - both through streaming and extract, transform and load - to transfer data from source systems (EHRs, administrative databases, registries, etc) into repositories so that the data can be used for analytics (reporting, business intelligence, statistical modeling, machine learning, etc). The scope of this role is end-to-end, such that it includes all activities from requirements gathering and database analysis, to ETL programing, to ongoing QA and maintenance of data pipelines and target databases.

• Extensive knowledge in the design and development of data pipelines (both streaming and ETL)
• SQL database (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.)
• Data modeling tool (Erwin, Data Architect, etc)
• ETL tool (Data Stage, Microsoft SSIS, etc)
• Familiarity with cloud architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.) an asset
• Working knowledge of at least one industry standard tool for each of the following is required:
• Devops/sysops experience with Spark and Hadoop on clusters an asset
• Knowledge of best practices in data warehousing required
• Experience designing and running testing scenarios required
• Mastery of SQL programing required
• Strong interpersonal skills required for requirement gathering

Unit Summary

The Digital Health Innovation team's aim is to use machine learning, artificial intelligence and novel digital health applications to improve patient care and enhance medical research. Our team has two major areas of strength: Data Science (applied machine learning/artificial intelligence) and Application Development (the creation of new digital health products in partnership with clinicians and researchers).
