Position - Career Counsellor/ Job Developer - Career JumpStart (permanent position, program funded until March 31, 2024)
Location - 555 Richmond Street West
(Please note that we are temporarily operating via a hybrid model of in-office and remote work)

Position Summary
This project -in partnership with IBM-will provide 100 post secondary youth- who disclose a mental health issues, with the opportunity to complete a cyber security certificate, Cognitive Behaviour therapy skills as well as specialized pre-employment , mentorship and future skills training as well as job matching and placement. The project will empower workers and job seekers who face higher barriers of entry, and enhance pathways into meaningful and gainful employment. The project will offer tailored supports, workplace accommodations, and specialized training which are fundamental components of protecting workers’ social and physical wellbeing. We will partner with employers to secure placements and employment opportunities for the participants.
Reporting to the Manager, the Career Counsellor/ Job Developer position is focused on employment planning, preparation, and placement services for participants in this exciting new program. The primary target groups are people from disadvantaged communities, under-employed workers, women, indigenous people, people of colour and youth at risk. There is a heavy focus on building partnerships with employers in the GTA to develop job opportunities in cybersecurity and related roles.

Qualifications
·University Degree and experience in counselling, group instruction and Job development or sales/marketing
·Knowledge and understanding of the target group, labour market information and resources in Toronto for youth and other job seekers.
·Ability to complete detail assessment of clients commitment to working in the trades
·Excellent research, communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
·Strong computer skills in MS Office, Internet, email and database management
·Knowledge of the Toronto labour market, industry trends and IT trends such as cybersecurity
·Group leadership/curriculum/program development skills
·Ability to relate to socially and economically disadvantaged youth
·Ability to work in a multi-cultural/multi-racial workplace
·Demonstrated experience and proficiency in Job Development or recruitment an asset
Specific Duties
Job Development:
·Outreach to multiple employers through research, cold calling and email to secure placements within the IT field, specifically cybersecurity
·Maintain a diverse job bank, keeping all information current and well organized
·Develop training plans in conjunction with employers for the duration of the placements
·Monitor and maintain regular contact with employers to encourage successful participant job retention
·Develop employment opportunities and make direct placements with employers in the IT industry, specifically cybersecurity
·Conduct regular evaluations with all YES clients and employers to ensure excellent customer service
Career Counselling:
·Assess the client’s skills and abilities, employment interest and barriers to successful employment to
determine employment needs and develop a plan of action identifying level of support
·Clarify employment, training or career goals by exploring local labour market, education and training opportunities/resources, focusing on cybersecurity
·Follow up with clients, referring counsellors/ agencies and employers
·Work with YES Mentorship program to facilitate mentor matches
·Adhere to and maintain outcomes target as set by YES and ensure high quality customer service
·Market YES services to the community to create mentorship opportunities when needed by: mail-outs, cold calls, telephone solicitation and any other method deemed appropriate
·Conduct presentations to agencies and the community at large on behalf of YES
Facilitation:
•Facilitate group workshops in all areas of job search including, but not limited to resumes, cover letters, job search strategies and interview techniques as needed
•Conduct regular orientation sessions
Organizational Responsibilities
·Adheres to all YES policies and procedures and ensures confidentially is maintained on client, personnel, financial and agency matters
·Represents YES at all times in a professional manner
·Participates in regular supervision meetings
·Attends all staff meetings
·Works cooperatively with other team members
·Carries out any other duties, as required
Starting Salary:$58,295.80starting rate with increase after 6 months to $58,950.84 OPSEU Bargaining Unit Position.
Hours of Work:40 hours per week, Fridays 9-4:00
