Working for the Department/Faculty


The University of Alberta is home to North America’s only freestanding Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. We provide academic training in Rehabilitation Science, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech-Language P athology. Our researchers lead their field in areas such as spinal cord injury, mental health, robotics, language development, and the impacts of COVID-19. In 2012, the University of Alberta Rehabilitation Medicine Calgary Satellite opened its doors to physiotherapy and occupational therapy students. Our Calgary campus provides PT and OT students in southern Alberta with continued connection to their communities, while training to become much-needed healthcare providers


Position


The Calgary Satellite Program Assistant provides technical and administrative support to the course­based MScPT and MScOT programs situated at the University of Alberta's College of Health Sciences, Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine satellite site in downtown Calgary. The individual in this position will model the clinical role of the Therapist Assistant for students in the entry to practice MScPT and MScOT programs and handle requests from faculty, staff and students. The position reports to the Calgary Administrative Coordinator.


Duties


Administrative and Instructional Support to MScPT and MscOT Program


  • Assists instructors in preparation of various learning activities
  • Oversees logistics for practical exams, including the booking of rooms
  • Schedules and assists client educators
  • Coordinates student access to learning resources and labs
  • Lnvigilates both practical and written exams, in-person and online
  • Maintains inventory of equipment, materials and orders replacements as needed
  • Monitors student practice labs


Technical Support to MScPT and MscOT Program


  • Sets-up and takes down lab demonstrations and equipment
  • Assists instructors with distributed education technology
  • Assists instructors with delivery of online course content using University's learning management system (eClass powered by moodle)
  • Completes routine maintenance on lab equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers etc.
  • Provides technical support for courses and labs
  • Maintains all teaching rooms, laboratories and resources
  • Assists instructors with online learning platforms such as Zoom


Supplementary Learning Activities


  • Organizes and leads supplementary learning activities for MScPT and MScOT students focused on technical skills needed for clinical practice
  • Supports the student-based Professional Development Committee in organizing various activities


Minimum Qualifications


  • Familiarity with Zoom is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience with adult supervision and classroom management is an asset
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and perform tasks accurately with attention to detail
  • Experience working in a post-secondary environment is an asset
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure, both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience working in mental health, neurology, cardiorespiratory, orthopaedic and paediatric clinical environments is an asset
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office Suite
  • The ideal candidate will preferably have a Therapist Assistant diploma; equivalent c ombination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Familiarity with Google Applications and/or eClass is an asset
