The Opportunity
The Pembina Institute is a non-partisan think tank that advocates for strong, effective policies to support Canada’s clean energy transition. Through research, consulting and convening, we employ highly collaborative approaches to reduce the environmental impacts of energy production and use. We’re passionate about sustainability and dedicated to enabling positive social change and equity. We’re energetic, dynamic, collaborative, nimble and sharp as tacks.
This is a pivotal moment and it’s all hands on deck here. We’re searching for a Senior Analyst to play a role in advancing research to support the reduction of emissions from oil and gas emissions.
The Position
Canada is currently developing some of the world’s most ambitious climate policies at a time when major changes are happening in global energy systems. Our oil and gas sector is at a pivotal moment. Decisions made this decade will impact the trajectory of the sector for decades to come. Our oil and gas program works to advance leading-edge policies that are needed for the oil and gas industry to do its fair share in helping Canada meet its climate targets and prepare the industry to successfully navigate the energy transition.
Reporting to the Director of Oil and Gas, in this role you will support our team in advocating for strong policies to reduce emissions from oil and gas production. We are looking for someone with experience in the oil and gas sector and strong data analysis skills; a team player who can create content that communicates complex issues in a compelling way to decision-makers to advance our policy goals.
The Candidate Profile
As an ideal candidate, you’re smart, creative and passionate about advancing the clean energy transition through pragmatic policy and driven to create change. You’re positive and pragmatic, with a record of building good relationships and solving problems with stakeholders from every corner — from government to industry to Indigenous communities and environmental non-profits. You're thoughtful, creative, dynamic and easy to work with. In short, you’re a lot like us.
Responsibilities
• Conduct thorough qualitative and technical data driven analyses of energy systems, emissions, technologies, and policy to support our policy advocacy.
• Manage and cultivate constructive relationships with government, industry leaders, other ENGOS, and Indigenous community members, and collaborate with those groups to advance ambitious climate policies.
• Collaboratively create and lead high-quality projects, including reports, presentations, briefing notes and funding proposals.
• Represent the Pembina Institute’s views at meetings, regulatory hearings, presentations, and in the media.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
• A master’s degree in science, engineering, sustainability, economics, public policy or related field.
• 5+ years of experience working on energy and environmental issues in industry, academia, government, or the non-profit sector.
• Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with a variety of groups.
• Knowledge and demonstrated interest in climate change, policy, and the oil and gas sector.
• Experience conducting data analysis using Microsoft Excel.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex matters in plain language and in a variety of formats such as formal reports, blogs and social media posts.
Other Valuable Qualifications
• Experience at multi-stakeholder tables or in finding solutions within a group that reflects a range of interests and perspectives.
• Direct experience in developing or implementing provincial and/or federal environmental policy and regulation.
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with experience. The hiring range for the position is $70,000 to $80,000 annually, with a range maximum of $90,000 obtained with increased skill and experience in the role.
To Apply
Applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. (MT) on Monday, September 18, 2023.
The Pembina Institute is an equal opportunity employer, and we welcome applications from Indigenous People and other racially visible people, persons with disabilities and women in occupations or positions where they are under-represented. If you are a member of one of these equity seeking groups, you are encouraged to self-identify on your application form, covering letter or resume.
