Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Controller/CFO, the Manager - Accounting is responsible for overseeing all daily/weekly/monthly accounting, payroll, settlement, and costing activities as well as certain administrative functions. The Manager - Accounting is a key position ensuring that company operations are running efficiently such that users of information from the ERP system receive the information they need to support decision making.
Position Information:
·Full-time, year-round, salaried position
·37.5-hour work week (Monday to Friday)

·Based at head office in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia
Responsibilities:
Accounting/Finance
·Oversight of team preforming daily, weekly, and monthly accounting and costing activities including AR, AP, GL, payroll, costing and fishermen’s settlements
·Ensure all data entry and accounting systems are operating efficiently and accurately
·Assist with preparation of accurate and timely monthly financial statements
·Complete monthly reconciliations and associated journal entries
·Review monthly trial balances prior to financial statement preparation
·Assist with sale of foreign currency and assist with hedging where requested
·Monitor cash flows
·Other accounting and administrative tasks as required, including certain IT functions
Working & Coordinating with Operations
·Oversight of timely settlement of fishers and harvesters
·Ensure preparation/recording of shipping papers and related documents, receiving reports and cold storage documents
·Support communications, internal and external
·Ensure timely review, entry, and payment of invoices
·Ensure timely, accurate and complete invoicing of sales
·Ensure accuracy of inventory in the ERP system
·Preparation of all reporting regarding EDC
·Other operational tasks as required
Payroll
·Overall ownership of payroll function
·Ensure all payroll remittances are submitted when due
·Ensure all payroll accounts with CRA are balanced
·Prepare and process administrative payroll on a bi-weekly basis
·Oversee and assist with preparation of production payroll
·Management of WCB compliance (remitting payments, monitoring rates, managing active claims)
·Supervise/prepare T4s, ROEs and required EI filings
Employee Benefits & Human Resources
·Manage group insurance plan (administration, payments, new enrollments, terminations, negotiation)
·Ownership of HR support functions such as maintaining employee administrative files that document vacation days, sick days, pay rates and raises and benefits
·Coordinate with providers of group benefits, reconcile, and make timely payments
·Ensure staff are properly informed of all payroll matters relevant to them
·Perform personnel evaluations and development plans with direct reports
Work Environment
Based at company headquarters in Yarmouth the Manager - Accounting will be expected on occasion to travel to other locations where the companies operate. The Manager - Accounting will be reimbursed for any use of personal vehicle and out-of-pocket costs according to company policy.
Requirements:
Education and Training
·Degree in accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience
·Basic knowledge of ERP systems
·Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, and Outlook
·On the job training provided
Experience
·Experience managing an accounting team
·Experience with payroll software and processing payroll on a regular basis
·Experience dealing with CRA and filing remittances
·Experience with fishers/harvester settlements and the related accounting entries
·Experience dealing with details of shipping product both domestically and internationally
·Experience of the fishing industry would be considered an asset
