General Manager Jobs

The General Manager will provide leadership and direction to the personnel within a company business unit. This role is accountable for the business unit’s revenue, day-to-day operations, staff management, customer communication and satisfaction, safety and regulatory compliance, equipment maintenance and inventory. The position will work closely with corporate leaders, customers, vendors, and other stakeholders. All functions of this position are critical for the company to maintain a competitive edge and maximize profitability.

Job Duties

• Ensure all purchasing and accounts payables are handled in accordance with company policy
• Ensure all OEM inventories are accurately reflected in OVISS, and promptly resolve any discrepancies
• Ensure proper staffing of business unit to fulfill all necessary work
• Gather and disseminate information to regional and corporate leadership as it relates to staffing, inventory, budget, revenue and operational risks
• Advocate and maintain a strong commitment to safety; oversee all safety requirements for business unit including DOT requirements, OHSA requirements, worker injury reports, and accidents
• Build and maintain positive and profitable customer and vendor relationships
• Ensure the efficient and on-time service to customers; effectively problem solve customer issues
• Direct the duties of the staff and supervision of the business unit
• Respond to emergency situations
• Actively seek means of growing revenues or increasing operational efficiencies to improve profitability of the business unit and to grow the business in size and scope
• Establish adequate procedures to ensure the safety and productivity of all stakeholders
• Review all CSA violations and ensure drivers are disciplined in accordance with standard directives from the Safety Dept and/or established within the regional
• Operate business unit efficiently by analyzing operating costs and revenue
• Oversee the recruiting, hiring, performance management, goal setting, disciplining and coaching of all employees of the business unit

Qualifications

• Knowledge of DOT & FMCSA Regulations
• Strong skill base and comfort with technology including Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, and routing or dispatching systems.
• College Degree with at least seven (7) years of management experience in the transportation industry preferred, or 5 or more years of finished vehicle transportation leadership experience
