With the overarching objective of Defining a Higher Standard of safety and continuous improvement, we are currently seeking an ambitious and dedicated Operations Manager for our Truro, NS, location. As a key member of our team, our Operations Manager is responsible for driving the overall success of our operations across all production phases and the safe and efficient coordination of Yard/Site Staff and Contractors.


Key Responsibilities


Reporting to the President, the Senior Yard Operations Manager is dedicated to sound business practices, continuous improvement and compliance with applicable laws and regulations, resulting in improved safety, efficiency, quality, and profitability.


Leadership


  • Provide leadership in safety and environmental stewardship by demonstrating and ensuring adherence to company safety and sustainability processes and procedures.
  • Provide day-to-day direction for the Yard/Site staff, ensuring the day-to-day operations of the staff are executed to maximize efficiency, quality and profitability.
  • Monitor and evaluate employees' quality, efficiency, and performance in day-to-day operations.
  • Direct and oversee the work of employees to achieve maximum efficiency and meet performance targets.
  • Responsible for assessing the day-to-day needs of the staff and communicating with dispatch resource needs regarding labour, supplies and equipment.
  • Create and sustain a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Protect the company's reputation by managing issues, and engaging support from senior leadership as required.
  • Hire, train, coach, mentor and manage the performance of hourly and salaried staff.
  • Provide leadership and direction to improve safety and environmental performance, reduce operational costs, enhance log value, and maximize margins while promoting the company's core values.


Operations/Maintenance


  • Actively identify areas of improvement and implement processes and procedures to advance current operations.
  • Optimize efficiency and utilization of all aspects of the operations.
  • Working closely with our Logistics team to efficiently manage, coordinate and supervise site/yard operations to ensure timely and targeted delivery of materials as forecasted to maximize margin for the company.


Qualifications


  • Ability to drive operational excellence and motivate a team.
  • Ability to analyze, develop, establish, and maintain efficient workflow processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • A minimum of 3 years of management experience in a metal recycling facility will be considered an asset.
