Job Description

Summary:


Our award-winning client is seeking a Finance Manager to join their team. The Manager of Finance will report to the CEO and be responsible for managing the company’s financial affairs in accordance with regulatory requirements and organized goals. The Manager of Finance will be a key member of the executive management team and oversee all financial-related activities, including accounting, finance, budgeting, forecasting, contract analysis, and financing. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity.


Responsibilities:


  • Manage budget tracking, accounting, and reporting within the company and ensure cash flow is appropriate for the organization’s operations.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial analysis of budgets, reports, and trends to assist the CEO, Secretary – Treasurer of the Board of Directors, and the Management team.
  • Participate in the development of the company’s plans and programs as a strategic partner.
  • Review capital expenditure requests.
  • Create financial outlook reports and ensure company funds are sufficient.
  • Provide financial insight to strengthen and validate strategic decisions.
  • Measure and communicate performance to targets monthly, and develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism.
  • Budget, forecast, and oversee current and future investments.
  • Financial Management and Financial Planning:
  • Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Management team to develop monthly strategies for profitability improvement.
  • Review costs of labour service charges.
  • Oversee financial reporting, analysis, and projections to ensure accuracy and timely completion.
  • Establish credibility throughout the organization and with the Board as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.
  • Provide financial and strategic input into customer or supplier/vendor agreements.
  • Provide financial and strategic input into customer or supplier agreements.
  • Prepare an annual fiscal budget for approval by the Board of Directors.
  • Advise on methods to increase revenue and reduce costs, and advise on long-term business and financial planning.
  • Provide leadership in the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the organization’s financial performance and business needs.
  • Develop a strategic financial plan in coordination with the CEO and the Management team.


  • Assess and minimize financial risks, stay abreast of market changes, and communicate risks to the CEO and the Secretary – Treasurer of the Board.
  • Perform risk management by analyzing the organization’s liabilities and investments.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to the Board of Directors.
  • Develop and review all formal finance-related procedures.
  • Ensure effective internal controls and compliance with applicable regulatory laws.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, regulatory financial and legal requirements, and company policy.
  • Risk Management and Compliance:


  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Establish and develop relationships with external partners and stakeholders.
  • Develop and coach the financial team to increase efficiencies and meet department objectives.
  • Provide financial advice on contracts into which the corporation may enter.
  • Provide technical financial advise and know knowledge to others within the financial discipline.
  • People Leadership:
  • Continuously improve the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues.
  • Provide timely and regular reporting to the sole shareholder.
  • Provide financial input and leadership on issues affecting the organization.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and management of the finance and accounting team.


Required Qualifications:


  • 5-10 years experience in a senior leadership financial role.
  • Excellent leadership abilities with the ability to manage a team and engage with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • CPA / CA designation is required.
  • Ability to analyze, strategies and solve problems.
  • Well-versed in all aspects of financial management ranging from simple accounting to broad investment and banking operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices.
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and written.


Complimentary Experience:


  • Previous experience in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Canada Labour Code Part II, its regulations.
  • An MBA would be considered an asset.
