Job Description
Reporting to the Director, Employee Labour Relations and Human Rights, the Workplace Investigations Lead is instrumental in leading and championing corporate strategies related to workplace investigations at HHS. As a key contact for internal and external stakeholders, the Workplace Investigations Lead provides guidance and support to the Investigation Specialists, managers across the HR portfolio, stakeholders and external consultants on a broad spectrum of workplace investigation matters. In addition, the role provides expert evidence-based advice to the organization with respect to complex workplace complaints and is responsible, from time to time, for investigating complex workplace complaints received under the Prevention and Management of Workplace Violence and Harassment Protocol, Values Based Code of Conduct, and the Privacy Breach Investigation Protocol, amongst other policies.
The Workplace Investigations Lead is a primary resource on various projects and quality improvement initiatives related to workplace investigations and related policies. The Lead ensures best practices with respect to workplace investigations and report writing are followed across the organization, and will develop and ensure facilitation of all levels of training and education related to conducting workplace investigations and the policies, as applicable (e.g. departmental, webinars, etc.).
  • Ability to work on confidential and sensitive matters with tact and discretion
  • Experience in a highly unionized public sector environment preferred
  • Demonstrated excellence in effective communication (written and verbal)
  • Minimum of 7 years related experience in HR/labour relations and/or legal experience in multi-site, unionized environment; conducting workplace investigations
  • Undergraduate Degree in Law, Labour/Industrial Relations, or Business Administration, or equivalent related experience required
  • Master’s Degree in Labour/Industrial Relations an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a high performance environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience coaching/mentoring and alternate dispute resolution techniques
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, 2000, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and other healthcare and/ or regulatory standards and guidelines
  • Minimum 3 years related experience in leadership and managing complex projects
  • Considerable experience in the development and implementation of workplace investigation policies, procedures and best practices

Unit Summary
The Employee Labour Relations team, as part of the Human Resources (HR) portfolio, is the primary source of subject matter expertise regarding employee and labour relations for HHS, and its expansive and diverse population. The team provides a highly effective continuum of human resources services from varied, high performing HR professionals comprised of Labour Relations,Workplace Investigations Specialists, Associates and Coordinators.
