Job Description
Reporting to the Lead, Workplace Investigations, the Workplace Investigations Associate manages the intake process with Human Resources for complaints arising from multiple sources.
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Supports the team by receiving and conducting preliminary inquiries into complaints to assess and recommend appropriate next steps;
  • Working knowledge of the Regulated Health Professionals Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA)
  • Support individuals in understanding options for resolution under related workplace conduct policies, including but not limited to supporting staff/leaders with informal resolution processes;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Undergraduate Degree in Human Resources, Social Justice or related field required
  • Supports the development and implementation of fulsome workplace investigation educational programs through a variety of mediums.
  • Mediation / conflict management skills
  • Knowledge of workplace investigation techniques, human rights, sexual violence, equity, and principles of trauma-informed service provision
  • Supports the Workplace Investigations Specialists in file preparation for investigation - collating allegations, communication with parties, and note-taking, as applicable.
  • Project coordination skills
  • Responds to inquiries related to workplace conduct policies, and a broad range of general workplace investigation issues, based on evidence-based best practices and jurisprudence.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation including the Employment Standards Act (ESA), Ontario Human Rights Code, Pay Equity Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
  • Assists in the analysis and preparation of reports and presentations, as required.
  • Develops and maintains tools required to accurately track and report on workplace investigations metrics and trends.

Unit Summary
The Employee Labour Relations and Workplace Investigations team, as part of the Human Resources (HR) portfolio, is the primary source of subject matter expertise regarding employee, labour relations and workplace investigations for HHS, and its expansive and diverse population. The team provides a highly effective continuum of human resources services from varied, high performing HR professionals comprised of Labour Relations, Workplace Investigations Specialists, Associates and Coordinators.
Schedule Work Hours
Days, Monday to Friday with willingness to be flexible with working hours to suit operational requirements. 37.5 hours per week.
