Your opportunity:


This dynamic role supports two Wellness departments from the Wellness portfolio in the Student Affairs and Services Department: Accessibility Services, and Health & Counselling Centre. This role is ideal for candidates who understand that the concept of wellness is multidimensional and that students can build and develop approaches to wellness through supports and experiences. This unique position allows for an exciting work environment where you will use your creative skills to establish unique outreach to various students across our campus.


With direction from the Directors of the Health & Counselling Centre, and Accessibility Services, the Wellness Communications Coordinator supports communications needs for these two departments within Student Affairs and Services at UTM. In addition to work specific to each department, this role helps to support unified branding and messaging for “wellness” in the work these two departments do across campus. Paramount to supporting the communications requirements for these two departments, the incumbent will consult and work closely with UTM’s Office of Communications, and align plans with the overall UTM marketing and communications strategy. The incumbent is responsible for the creation of print, digital, and social media materials for the two departments, redesigns and maintains web presence, student outreach avenues, and engagement across the UTM campus. The coordinator supports projects, awareness and engagement in campaigns such as Be Well UTM: A Resource & Activity Fair, physical activity fair, resiliency and self-care, health screening and disease awareness, diversity and equity engagement. This work is done in conjunction with a team of student-staff and departmental staff that support the communications projects in each department. In addition to the UTM Communications team, this position will work closely with Student Affairs and Services communication planning and priorities.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising on best practices and strategies to maximize digital communication initiatives
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategicimportance
  • Producing promotional and outreach materials
  • Tracking and monitoring outreach activities
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms
  • Implementing a digital media plan that supports marketing/communications strategies for the two departmentsthat align with the overall UTM marketing/communications strategy
  • Advising on social media trends and platforms to enhance digital communication strategies
  • Determining appropriate channel and methodology for dissemination of content


Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Initiative and creativity required.
  • Knowledge of accessibility / AODA compliance requirements for websites/digital and print
  • Excellent knowledge of, and experience with: updating websites using Drupal and HTML; designing images and visuals using Photoshop/Creative Cloud/Illustrator; Microsoft Officeincluding Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; Social Media; MailChimp
  • Prior experience with redesign and rebranding different components under a unified concept
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective problem solving ability.
  • Strong customer service orientation is crucial.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement.
  • Strong attention to detail including solid analytical and investigative skills are critical.
  • Minimumfour years coordinating marketing and communications operations and content strategy. This includes development, organization and implementation of marketing and communication plans, including website maintenance and updates.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills; ability to successfully implement multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines.


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Priorexperience developing content for wellness topics an asset.
  • Prior experience developing content for the 18-24 year old demographic
  • Demonstrated commitment to a student centered approach, and an understanding of student development and best practices for the student experience is preferred.
