Job Description

At Jack.org, we work alongside a national network of young leaders to create communities that support youth mental health. Our network of 3,000 (and counting!) young people across Canada are as busy as ever, and our staff of 90 humans and 3 dogs are working just as hard.


Over the past few years, Jack.org’s work has grown substantially in response to the global crisis. Now more than ever, we must reach and support young people's mental health across Canada. And we are in a strong position to do so: we have committed donors, a financial reserve, new leadership and a high-performing team eager to tackle the challenges in front of us and continue our exceptional growth.


The position:

Reporting to the Vice President, Marketing & Communications, the Manager, Video Production is responsible for driving and overseeing the production of video content from start to finish. This role will require a creative and detail-oriented self-starter who is able to deliver video content that explores mental health subjects with sensitivity. Jack.org prides itself in quality story-telling through video content and this role is responsible for ensuring that quality is maintained and continually elevated. This involves co-creating, producing and hands-on editing of diverse, inclusive, story-driven content for a range of channels including for Jack.org’s programs, socials, and assets for paid media.


The person in this role will also manage creative content practices and continuously improve upon processes to weave efficiency, transparency and clarity into your collaboration with different stakeholders. In addition to developing video content that resonates with youth, this role will drive the creation of video marketing assets to expand our reach to youth and donors across Canada.


You’ll be joining a collaborative team of other designers, storytellers, mental health advocates, and creative marketers to build the Jack.org brand and impact youth everywhere.


The responsibilities of the position will include:


Production (35%)

  • Run creative brainstorms for new brand video content opportunities, providing leadership on video and content production across the organization
  • Crafting briefs based on the objectives set out by the Programs, Marketing & Communications, and Development teams.
  • Ensuring Jack.org video content and brand appeal is a leader in the not-for-profit space and beyond by continually improving video content practices and strategizing from insights to ensure performance and audience connection.
  • Optimizing content, storytelling methods and formats to ensure the organization is best positioned to connect with and educate youth, as well as achieve funding, fundraising, and partnership objectives.
  • Educational videos (65%) that explore mental health subjects in line with our programming, and
  • Leading the vision and story development for video projects that seek to educate and connect with audiences
  • Support production of experiential and live events, including Jack Rides, through coordination with vendors and designers.
  • Promotional videos (35%) to drive brand awareness, fundraising and program engagement
  • Managing the production and delivery of video content for Jack.org from start to finish, specifically:

Post-Production (45%)

  • Ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery of video content for campaigns.
  • Be accountable for all content quality and brand standards, including by providing oversight of videos produced by external collaborators.
  • Exercising editorial judgment with visual and sound selections, showing a good eye/ear for the highest quality content.
  • Editing videos in Adobe Premiere for a range of environments including social channels, program settings (e.g., schools & community centers), and paid media opportunities.


Vendor & stakeholder management (20%)

  • Managing a roster of freelancers and agencies to support production needs.
  • Working with the Programs team to identify, source, find, assess and capture stories from Jack.org’s youth network and beyond, as needed to build out compelling educational content.
  • Focusing and committing to managing meaningful relationships with an expanding network of youth storytellers.
  • Leading external vendors through projects ensuring everyone delivers on their responsibilities in a timely manner and to the highest of standards.
  • Serving as the point of contact for internal production requests and collaborating with teams on their content and marketing campaigns.
  • Ensuring an effective planning and briefing process, so that agencies are able to effectively deliver the organisational objectives. This includes ensuring effective processes for briefing, production planning and management, resourcing, scheduling, quality control, reviews and sign-off, and asset delivery.


We’re looking for:

  • Passionate about telling stories through educational content, as well as through marketing to drive awareness and action.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in video production, creative arts, journalism or marketing.
  • A deep knowledge of all video/content platforms and the best ways to leverage each one when connecting with our audiences is an asset.
  • A strong team player with the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-changing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with the proven ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously, work independently, and drive projects to completion.
  • A strong portfolio or reel showing your experience in video content production / management, service operations, project management, and/or editorial background.
  • A self-sufficient and detail-oriented Project Management mindset for production processes and coordination. You pride yourself in checking for quality in every regard before it goes out.
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere, Soundstripe, Envato, Storyblocks and Typeform is an asset
  • Professional working proficiency in French is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of Google GSuite, Microsoft Office, Slack and related apps (Airtable etc) is an asset.

While the work involves supporting a network of youth in all provinces and territories, this position is at the Jack.org headquarters in downtown Toronto. Our staff works under a hybrid model, with the flexibility to work from home or the office. You may be required to go into the office occasionally, depending on your role and jack.org operational needs.
