We're seeking a Staff Software Developer to join our Rates Team!

About the role:

PayByPhone is looking for a dedicated and curious Staff Software Developer. We are growing in a big way and are searching for great developers like you to join us.

As a Staff Software Developer, you’ll provide technical guidance to a number of teams as they develop major components that power our consumer apps and global platform, enabling over 70 million users to conveniently pay for parking.

Here’s what you’ll do:

• Build and deploy both serverless and containerized cloud software through an automated CI/CD pipeline, help refine the process continuously
• Learn from your teammates and help them learn through pairing and mob programming sessions
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Developers to design, build, and launch new product features
• Support team with debugging, testing, triaging and resolving production issues
• Review, analyze and evaluate technical systems, development standards, tooling, and processes, and drive their implementation within the team.
• Provide insight and feedback to Developers, Designers and Product Managers
• Design systems, test-drive, code review and deploy the code for new features and bug fixes
• Participate in market and client requirements discovery in collaboration with PayByPhone product team
• Participate in the team’s on-call rotation
• Actively seek out challenging technology and development problems and solve them with little to no guidance
• Develop and implement automated tests for ensuring the quality, performance, and scalability of our application
• Act as the go-to technical person representing multiple teams and own technical strategy for broad or complex projects and requirements
• Own the success of the systems you and your team develop. This includes monitoring, investigating issues, and supporting the service during outages
• Provision and maintain cloud infrastructure for your team’s products with terraform and AWS

The must-haves:

• Experience improving legacy systems, or migrating them to a microservice architecture
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB, or DynamoDB
• You know how to communicate effectively within the team and with other teams to share ideas and solve problems. You aren't afraid to ask questions to clarify technical design, requirements, and priorities.
• 7+ years’ experience designing, developing, and maintaining scalable production software that stands up to real-world users and production conditions
• You enjoy mentoring junior and intermediate developers
• Familiarity with Domain Driven Design concepts
• Experience with automated unit testing, and an interest in techniques such as TDD and BDD
• Expert-level ability to code in an Object-oriented programming language
• Experience with service-oriented or microservices architecture using synchronous (REST) and asynchronous (event-driven) integration
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS/Azure
• You’ve worked in or want to work in an agile environment using processes like Kanban or Scrum
• Excellent understanding of software engineering principles

The nice to haves:

• Experience coding in C# and/or Java
• Experience with Docker, Terraform
• You’re excited about building robust and extensible 24/7 back-end services for a global market
• Experience with React
• Experience with production monitoring and observability
