Software Developer (Sensor Application)

What will you do as a Sensor Application Software Developer?

LMI is seeking a Sensor Application Software Developer with 3+ years of experience to join the multi-disciplinary software team developing the platform-agnostic application. Developers in this group are responsible for developing a new generation of software which runs on embedded and personal computer environments using Windows and Linux operating systems. This new generation of software is architected to be highly flexible to be able to support current and future types of imaging devices, tools and industrial communication protocols.

LMI products are installed in customer production environments so correct operation is paramount. A commitment to and a solid foundation in industry best practices, high-quality design, implementation and testing are mandatory.

The successful candidate must be professional, resourceful, creative, and capable of working through problems. The candidate must be able to work autonomously while also being a contributing team player in this close-knit group of about 20 developer and QA professionals.

A typical week for the successful candidate may look like this;

• Drive development activities collaboratively with other LMI software or hardware teams. When limits on the product are stretched, this can be a rewarding opportunity to interact with the many facets of development at LMI.
• Proactively contribute to and implements continuous improvement initiatives
• Work closely with GUI developers and QA team members. Changes in the application often involve making changes to our protocol, so documentation and communication are important.
• Partner with Product Management to flesh out user stories as part of the development process as well as narrow down the requirements, and clarify test strategies with QA.
• Participate in software development activities including resolving defects, adding new features to the product, creating test code to test your changes and generating documentation of your work.

What You Need To Be Successful

• Understanding of object-oriented programming and design philosophy
• Ability to work in a team environment and to be accountable for your performance and documentation
• Proficiency with C. Experience with C++ is an asset as well
• Embedded development and testing experience
• Bachelor's Degree or greater in Computer Engineering or Computer Science
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal
• TCP/UDP/IP networking experience
• Experience with Agile development processes
• Understanding of concurrency, memory management, and hardware-software interfaces
