Job Description
Black & McDonald’s Western Utility team is growing! If you are an independent, enthusiastic, and driven professional searching for an opportunity to build a solid foundation for your career, this position is for you. The Snr. Project Coordinator will be assigned to the Edmonton Valley Line West LRT project and reports directly to the Project Manager.


Duties And Responsibilities Include


Project Coordinators assist with overall project performance and status from start to finish and in accordance with schedule, specifications and budget. They manage cost, schedule, safety, and quality, and keep the Project Manager well-informed of progress, discrepancies, questions, and any impacts on project plan and schedule.


  • Tracking and collection of documentation for extra work, submittals and backup for billing purposes.
  • Tracking and documenting project schedule activity, start, finish, % complete and major milestones.
  • Assist the project team to ensure project objectives, schedule, budget, cash flow, policies, procedures, and performance standards are met in accordance with company policy and contract specifications
  • Track, interpret, analyze, and report on project data
  • Coordinate material delivery to the job site, following up on discrepancies or variances.
  • Comply and ensure work is performed in compliance with applicable HSE legislation and company policies and procedures, contract requirements, and Black & McDonald policies and procedures
  • Coordinate and manage utility locates as required.
  • Assists in budget analysis, cost and margin projections, estimate project changes and impacts
  • Assist in preparing contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Performs duties related to site administration including management of project related information and documentation , maintenance of project files, review of completed time-sheets, processing of invoices and bills of lading.
  • Coordinate with the project team to plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones and execute project(s) on time, within budget, and in accordance with corporate policy
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with all stakeholders including Black & McDonald team members, clients, consultants, joint venture partners, trades, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and the community, while keeping them informed of relevant information
  • Maintain departmental and network databases as required to ensure records are kept current and accurate.
  • Assist in planning and preparing schedules and milestones, and monitor progress against established timelines
  • Tracking and reporting of production quantities and equipment utilization.

Education Requirements


A Degree or Diploma in the following would be considered an asset:


  • Engineering
  • Construction Management
  • Project Management
  • Construction Engineering Technology


The following certifications/designations are considered an asset


  • PMP designation
  • Construction safety certifications
  • Gold Seal Certification


Work Experience Requirements


  • 3-5 years as a Project Coordinator in the construction industry
  • Experience in underground utility, traffic signal, street lighting or gas installations
  • Previous experience working on either civil or electrical projects
  • Project experience in utilities construction is considered an asset
  • Experience working with JD Edwards would be considered an asset.
