Job Function


This position will fall under the Special Projects Customer Operations Manager COM with various projects relating to New Technology and Innovation that affect Design Services. Current projects would include:
  • Creating Change Process procedures in conjunction with other Lines of Business & providing oversight based on Design Services priorities
  • Experience with process change and ensuring agreement across multiple stakeholders
  • Supporting Utility Automated Design (AUD) tool on behalf of Design Services
  • Reviewing, evaluating and prioritizing field recommended changes and working with other LOBs to complete a structured approach to implementation of those changes
  • Experience with implementing Technology projects and able to articulate the impact of projects have on field staff and other lines of business
  • Representing Design Services on all new technology which may impact the business such as ADMS
  • Review Future initiatives driven by other LOB which may impact Design Services such as GenID replacement, 2LT or other technology related changes
  • Field Maps Implementation or other implementations related to business improvements in design and storm situations


Job Discription


  • Compile and review information and estimates provided on distribution/transmission work. Assist in discussions, problem solving and issue resolution regarding negotiation, implementation and ongoing work performance of Service Level Agreements or Contracts. Evaluate the complete package, identify and recommend potential changes to improve the final package including prices and service levels.
  • Develop, monitor, evaluate and recommend changes and improvements to ensure efficient and effective completion of work as required in Service Level Agreements, contracts and processes. Assist in process benchmarking and identify potential best practices to improve assigned processes. Identify potential items requiring audit and prepare standards and specifications to audit against, to ensure reasonable compliance related to the delivery of service as agreed.
  • Assist in discussions, problem solving and issue resolution. Identify, plan, organize and monitor requirements and processes for activities requiring completion by various work groups, to ensure delivery of service as agreed.
  • Understand, document, and develop integrated business processes and relate them to the information technology platforms which the business relies on to accomplish its work program.
  • Produce or oversee the development of the communication requirements relating to a wide variety of business operations processes, providing advice and direction, making presentations to various audiences associated with the technical and operational processes affected.
  • Interpret and assess organizational performance as it relates to the execution of a work program, paying particular attention to the effectiveness of business processes, and the penetration and successful adaptation of allied software tools and data systems.
  • Supervise staff and organize responsibilities and assignments to effectively execute accountabilities. Monitor results and take necessary corrective action. Plan, allocate and organize work activities. Schedule and assign work to staff with instructions, coordinate their activity, direct them on problem areas, review and evaluate their performance.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Education


  • Requires a knowledge of statistical and analytical techniques and estimating principles to apply cost control operations related to the preparation, or evaluation of estimates.
  • Requires a knowledge of English to effectively communicate both orally and in writing to prepare reports standards and specifications and in the interpretation of Service Level Agreements or Contracts.This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of University training (Grade XII plus 5 years).
  • Requires a knowledge of electrical fundamentals, network theory, power systems and apparatus.
  • Requires a knowledge of the theories and principles relating to business methods, processes, operations, including change management techniques and the computerized applications associated with a modern business environment.


Experience


  • Requires experience with various computer systems to select and utilize the most effective data compilation as it relates to distribution work.
  • Understanding of how Design Services process/actions affect different Line of Businesses and impacts of change
  • Requires experience in negotiation practices and issue resolution techniques to support development of Service Level Agreements, contracts, project requirements and process changes.
  • A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience
  • Requires experience developing and implementing new business processes and monitoring organizational performance, using a variety of diagnostic tools.
  • Requires an understanding of benchmarking methods to be able to provide assistance in identifying potential best practices to improve assigned processes.
  • Experience working in or closely with Design Services staff members
  • Experience with creating technology based change procedures or governance of those procedures
  • Requires experience in a supervisory capacity.Requires experience in the distribution/transmission business to understand related technical aspects of the job to deal with issues including applicable procedures, practices and work
  • Experience with AUD and the DOT process is considered an Asset
