About Us:
Solterre Design is a multi-faceted design and consulting firm established in 1992. We are the only architectural firm in Nova Scotia that works exclusively with environmental projects. Solterre is Atlantic Canada’s most experienced sustainable consulting firm, with more than seventy projects that have been LEED certified to-date. Currently, we are consulting on over thirty other LEED and Sustainability projects.
Solterre works on a broad range of commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities. Our experience with green rating systems covers LEED (v1.0, v2009, v4/v4.1), Green Globes (v2, v3), Parksmart; and exposure to the Living Building Challenge® and WELL Building Standard®.
Opportunity:
We are seeking an emerging (entry level) professional to join our sustainable consulting team in Halifax, NS. As a sustainability project manager, you will be working closely with senior consultants on a variety of projects working towards green building certification. You will be responsible for supporting senior consultants, project teams, and clients throughout every stage of construction – from pre-design through final certification.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Contribute to written reports conveying technical information and understanding of client’s sustainability goals and recommendations to meeting objectives;
- Work closely with design team members and contractors;
- Submit projects for certification and compile any additional documentation requested during secondary review;
- Assist with the facilitation of Integrative Design Process (IDP) meetings and project kick-offs
- Support the delivery of sustainability and green building certification services;
- Review and document project submittals to ensure compliance with sustainability targets and rating system requirements;
- Provide technical support on sustainability concepts such as site related issues, stormwater management, erosion and sedimentation controls, water use reduction, high efficiency building systems, renewables, waste management, material selection, thermal comfort, indoor air quality, and daylighting;
Required Qualifications/Experience:
- Desire to continuously learn and improve technical/professional skills;
- Organized, self-directed and motivated;
- Values sustainability; seeks to promote greener construction practices;
- Knowledge of green building practices and certification systems (LEED, Green Globes, ect.);
- Post-secondary degree or diploma;
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects; can quickly adapt to shifting priorities;
- Ability to work with a variety of teams and maintain/build professional relationships;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint;
- An ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience. However, this is an entry level position, and job training will be provided. If an applicant believes they do not meet some of the qualifications/experience, they are still welcome to apply and discuss during the interview stage if invited.
- Detailed and task oriented;
Optional:
- Have or plan to obtain professional accreditation or designation (LEED Green Associate,
- Revit, Lightstanza, Athena Impact Estimator, CAD skills
- LEED AP, Green Globes Emerging Professional, etc.)
- Knowledge of construction practices and ability to read specifications and drawings
Working Conditions:
Full time in office with occasional site visits (approximately 90% in office, 10% travel). Projects are located throughout Atlantic Canada. Possession of a Driver’s License is desired but not required.
