Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION


The Senior Project Coordinator is responsible for facilitating, promoting and ensuring effective and comprehensive project planning, development and implementation.


SCOPE


The Senior Project Coordinator reports to the Director of Health and RED Path Team Lead and is responsible for the complete implementation of the project and associated duties.


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Write reports, factsheets, briefing notes, training reports, infographics, sponsor reports, PowerPoints, and other policy-type documents.
  • Engage in background research, prepare resource scans and literature reviews.
  • Support communication and collaboration with stakeholders including funders, community members, inter-agency members and government agencies/representatives.
  • Consult appropriate experts, Knowledge Keepers, Elders, and community members for knowledge dissemination and betterment of existing resources.
  • Ability to keep adequate field notes, meeting minutes, and associated project management documentation.
  • Facilitate and deliver workshops, discussions, round tables, interviews and talking circles.
  • Attend collaborative meetings, conferences, trainings with team members.
  • Utilize various softwares and programs for project management, communication, research, and resource development.
  • Ability to design, implement, and evaluate programs and educational workshops/resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Analyze and interpret results/data and produce required knowledge sharing tools, resources activities.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working or volunteering with NGOs, interest groups and /or advocacy organizations.
  • Relevant experience working or volunteering with Indigenous People, groups, communities or organizations is desired.
  • Relevant experience working on health promotion, social justice or human rights projects.
  • Experience with facilitation, presentations, program development and review.
  • University degree in Education, Health Sciences, Gender & Social Justice, Social Work, Sociology, Indigenous Studies, Public Health, Socio-Legal or other related studies.

*Relevant experience understood as 2+ years. A combination of equivalent lived experience and/or education working with Indigenous populations will be considered.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


Knowledge


The employee must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:


  • Knowledge of intergenerational trauma, settler colonialism, and systemic oppression.
  • Knowledge of strategic and operational planning and program evaluation.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of Indigenous practises and Western practices relevant to promotion and protection of Indigenous Women, Two-Spirit, Transgender and Gender Diverse individual's rights and health.
  • Knowledge of government legislation and policies surrounding Indigenous Women, Two-Spirit, Transgender and Gender Diverse individuals health, rights, and culture.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Indigenous People's in Canada experiences including but not limited to: cultures, histories, traditions, and languages.
  • Knowledge of key issues impacting Indigenous Women, Two-Spirit, Transgender and Gender Diverse individuals and girls in Canada.
  • Knowledge and understanding of social policy, data collection, analysis and interpretation.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous determinants of health, social determinants of health, intersectionality, restorative and transformative justice practices, public health issues/concerns and sexual and reproductive health.
  • Knowledge of culturally safe and culturally appropriate engagement methods.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous Language(s) a strong asset.

The employee must demonstrate the following skills:


  • Ability to carry out culturally-appropriate gender-based analysis (training will beprovided);
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; Works well as a team and independently.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to implement trauma-informed, culturally safe, and gender-specific care in interactions and work.
  • Strong ability to navigate or learn various softwares including survey software, data-storage software, project management software, Outlook and Teams, etc.
  • Ability to maintain a high-degree of confidentiality.
  • Strong ability to build positive working relationships and rapport with team, community, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to conduct research in cooperation and consultation with the NWAC Provincial/Territorial Member Associations and with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to facilitate (training/certification will be provided).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;•Strong research and analytical skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Occasional travel (approximately 7 weeks per year) throughout Turtle Island and Inuit Nunangat (Canada or globally).
  • Working conditions are remote except for project's essential travel. Ample notice will be provided of in-person requirements.
  • Employee may be asked to work odd or long hours on weekends or overtime during travel on occasion, to be discussed and agreed upon with direct supervisor.
  • Lifting, carrying and managing office equipment and supplies may be required.
  • Employee will multi-task with possible interruptions from colleagues, management and/or community members.
