Job Description

Humane Canada is seeking a Coordinator, ACT Project, for 8 months within our Programs Department, focusing on successfully reaching the goals set out by the ACT Project.


Position Title:Coordinator, ACT Project

Reports to: Manager, ACT Project

Location:Canada (remote position), all meetings held online

Salary: $45,000 – $47,000 per annum

Benefits: Remote office, flexible hours

Position Type:Full-Time, fixed 8-month contract to end of March 2023, immediate start

OVERVIEW:


Humane Canada, the federation of SPCAs and humane societies, works to end animal cruelty, improve animal protection, and promote the humane treatment of all animals within Canada.

Humane Canada’s Programs Department is comprised of programs and sections, including Criminal Justice System Reform; Awareness, Collaboration and Tools (A.C.T.) for Women Experiencing Gender-Based Violence; Humane Education; Accreditation; National Pet Food Bank; and Policy & Research. The ACT Program Coordinator supports the Manager, ACT Program in executing Humane Canada’s ACT for Women with Animals Experiencing Gender Based Violence (GBV) Project, the objectives of which are to:

  • Develop and implement an adaptable collaborative response model (ACRM) for pet owning women experiencing GBV that can be adapted to underrepresented groups of women, including Official Language Minority Communities (OLMC), Indigenous and rural women.
  • Provide education, tools, resources, and access to the ACRM to sectors directly responding to women experiencing GBV, specifically an online learning centre and community of practice events.
  • Raise awareness and increase communication about the Violence Link among key sectors that engage with women experiencing GBV, and safety planning through engaging with stakeholders and production of content for learning modules.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


OVERALL


  • Attendance at conferences, workshops, and other events, both virtually and in person, as requested by the Manager, ACT Program.
  • Work with other members of the team to update and enhance delivery options and activities.
  • Develop and maintain professional communications with project stakeholders and subject matter experts.
  • Communicate regularly with the Manager, ACT Program on activities, challenges, and questions.
  • Act as the first point of contact for stakeholders and instructors responding to inquiries and redirecting as appropriate.
  • Track progress and evaluate results through regular meetings with the Manager, ACT Program, organizing data and generating reports.
  • Participate in meetings and work effectively with all members of the Humane Canada team.
  • Work with Marketing & Communications and ACT Program team to ensure that content updates are effectively communicated and reviewed with program team.

PROJECT SPECIFIC


  • Work with other Coordinator, ACT program to develop instructional materials, such as instructor guides, evaluation tools (quizzes, tests, exams, and answer keys) and other resources for instructors and students.
  • Collaborate with ACT Program team, to create content for the ACT newsletter, as well as manage any inquiries from stakeholders.
  • Create advocacy strategy guides and awareness materials that contribute to ongoing advocacy work of supporting survivors of gender-based violence and their animals.
  • Work with the Manager, ACT Program to identify subject matter experts to provide sector specific resource development knowledge.
  • Develop resources, tools, templates, policies, and forms, based on needs determined by stakeholders of the project. Support the resource development process including collaborating with graphic design, translation services, and project partners.
  • Encourage the participation of other stakeholders in the development of instructional materials.
  • Support the development and delivery of workshops across Canada to provide opportunities for stakeholders to increase their awareness of the Violence Link; collaborate across sectors within their region to break down silos; and learn about the ACRM that will provide them with the tools to reduce GBV for women who own animals.
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of the intended curriculum to allow for the development of an online awareness and resource centre, including sector-specific learning modules and the creation of shareable resources.

ORGANIZATION


  • Represent Humane Canada to other organizations, stakeholders, community at large and the media as required.
  • Keep ACT Manager and team informed on new developments in the ACT Project, through regular reports to your Manager.
  • The Coordinator, ACT Program will support the vision, mission, and values of Humane Canada while contributing to a positive, supportive, and team environment of respect, integrity, and dedication.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE


  • Successful completion of a post-secondary degree and 2-3 years of experience in the education, social services, or animal welfare sectors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES


  • The Coordinator, ACT Program will support the vision, mission, and values of Humane Canada while contributing to a positive, supportive, and team environment of respect, integrity, and dedication.
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, principles and values espoused by Humane Canada.
  • An understanding of and experience with animal sheltering and/or gender-based violence issues is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to a constant shift of priorities.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and support complex projects.
  • Languages – English is essential; bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
  • Must work to some strident deadlines and manage and respond to competing priorities and may be required to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, pays close attention to details and proactively follows up.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated strong operational skills, with the ability to work in a highly collaborative, consultative environment with other staff and external parties (Subject Matter Experts, Stakeholders, Partners) to achieve success.

REMOTE NATURE OF POSITION:


  • May be required to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Day-to-day operations of this role are remote. The successful candidate would be required to perform responsibilities reliably and effectively using technology.
  • Will require use of personal technology (phone, computer, printer etc.) and access to high-speed WiFi.
  • May need to work to some difficult deadlines and manage and respond to competing priorities.
  • Working hours are flexible, but availability is required between 9 am and 5 pm EST (Eastern Time Zone).
  • Availability to travel for role within Canada, as required.
