THE ROLE

A specialized FP&A type role with a core focus on putting together business cases for strategic and operational decision points. The role is a mix of business partnering, data analytics, and presentation preparation. In addition to the primary business casing, there may be some support activities for the quarterly forecasting and budgeting deliverables.

THE TASKS

Business Case Writing

May include, but not be limited to, the following tasks:

  • Incorporating feedback from stakeholders and revising the business case as necessary.
  • Conducting comprehensive research to understand the business situation or problem, market trends, and potential solutions.
  • Ensuring that all decisions and actions resulting from the business case are documented and communicated properly.
  • Identifying and detailing potential solutions or approaches to the business problem, including their costs, benefits, and risks.
  • Writing clear and concise business cases including executive summary, situation analysis, proposed solutions, financial implications, and recommendations.
  • Presenting and explaining the business case to key stakeholders including senior management and potential investors.
  • Preparing financial models or analyses, such as return on investment (ROI), payback period, or net present value (NPV), to support decision-making.

THE OPPORTUNITY

An amazing role for someone to break out of any reporting cycle and focus more on a unique and challenging form of management reporting / business intelligence. Business case writing is part analytics, part regulatory writing, and completely tied to making a potentially big impact on a business’s operations.

THE EXPECTATIONS TIMELINE PREVIEW

By Month 1

  • Start building relationships with internal business stakeholders, the Operations Finance Team, and the Commercial Finance Team.
  • Begin the process of understanding the intricacies of the business, its different revenue streams, and the specific role of the financial analyst in shaping strategies.
  • Become proficient in the company's planning processes, even if manual or disconnected initially.

By Month 3

  • Demonstrate good business casing abilities, actively participating in the development of business cases for new investments and projects.
  • Effectively use your analytical and business planning skills to aid in decision making including pricing activities, new business ventures, new product lines, margin analysis, low-volume/margin test rationalization, product divestitures, capital investments, RFP activities for customers, contract negotiations, and more.
  • Take part in one of the company's lab visits or ride-alongs with a field operations colleague to understand the practical side of operations better.


By Month 6

THE SKILL SET

  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Completion of CPA or MBA designation.
  • Minimum 3 years FP&A or Management Reporting experience.
