THE OPPORTUNITY


Due to continued growth in our Armor Division, a unique opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Automation Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will take a lead role on a team that is responsible for both maintenance of existing equipment and cells, and you will be tasked with creating and procuring new equipment and cells in the future. In addition, you will make analyze and make calculated adjustments to existing programs for currently running programs and creating new programs for new parts and processes. This role requires you to be in our Newport, VT office two to three times per week.


What You Will Be Doing


In this highly visible role, you will drive design and implementation of automated systems for use in diverse manufacturing and production environments and lead collaborative discussions between leadership and key stakeholders to determine automation capabilities and goals. In addition, you will collaborate with Design Engineering to establish best way to automate the fabrication of new products.


YOU WILL BE EVALUATED ON YOUR ABILITY TO


  • Effectively participate in design reviews to improve product design for manufacturability.
  • Support existing automation technology with component and process upgrades.
  • Analyze layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods and work force to maximize efficiency.
  • Understand servo motors/encoders and how they track motor positions, for both new installations and maintenance of current systems.
  • Leverage your CAD (SolidWorks or similar) experience and understanding of machine tolerances to ensure successful processes.
  • Troubleshoot electrical/mechanical, pneumatic systems to find and correct errors and failures and root causes for complex problems.
  • Deliver complex process automation projects on time and on budget to significantly improve the profitability of the Armor Business Unit.
  • Provide training and guidance to all employee levels in the operation and maintenance of new equipment.
  • Create detailed roadmaps to guide automation projects from conception to final implementation.


What You Will Need To Succeed


  • Experience with compression molding and related processes and Lean production principles is a plus.
  • Meaningful experience with 24VDC PLC and IO systems and common practice as well as familiarity with common practices of wiring, cable glands, crimping and soldering types of cable.
  • Experience in some form of robotics, (ABB Robotics a plus), ladder logic programming and the ability to use code to manipulate and check IO signals to accomplish tasks within an automated system.
  • A minimum of 6 to 9+ years of Automation Engineering experience.
  • Understanding of servo motors/encoders and how they track motor positions, for both new installations and maintenance of current systems.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory, French a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Automated Manufacturing, Electrical or Mechanical Engineer or other related discipline.
