We are hiring a team to help us support the work of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and are inviting applications for a Scientific Writer.
The Academy brings together Canada’s top-ranked health and biomedical scientists and scholars to make a positive impact on the urgent health concerns of Canadians.We conduct evidence-based assessments to inform public policy. The posted reports from our assessment on autism and most recently on health human resources are examples of our approach and the work involved.
The Scientific Writer and Team Lead plays a central role in the assessment process, reporting to the Project Director and working closely with the Chair to integrate and coordinate the work of the CAHS assessment team members. With feedback from the assessment committee(s) and direction from the chair(s), integrate the review of the literature and policy documents and input from the stakeholder engagement process to prepare the assessment report that addresses the sponsor questions and identifies key findings of relevance to FPT policy makers.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the assessment report, using an iterative process that integrates feedback from the committees and reviewers
- Search for additional literature in key areas identified by the co-chair(s)
- Review targeted websites for additional relevant policy documents
- Identify and develop the content for the virtual stakeholder sessions to test key findings
- Identify relevant policy documents through stakeholder submissions
- Develop stakeholder surveys and summarize results (e.g. call for written submissions, testing key findings)
- Highlight priority issues for discussion by and direction from the assessment committees and stakeholders through briefs and ppt.
- Support and integrate the Assessment Panel’s analysis of the current state of the evidence
- Building on the independent systematic review of the literature and in collaboration with the Researcher(s), conduct an environmental scan of policy documents, extracting suggested policy directions/initiatives and outcomes
Qualifications
●Post-secondary degree in a health, policy analysis and development, communications or related field
●Proficiency with technology through a range of platforms and programs (e.g. zoom, google docs, alchemer, ppt, basic web design)
●Bilingualism (English and French, written and verbal)is an asset
●5 or more years of experience of Canadian policy oriented research within the field of health sciences
●Demonstrated leadership skills
●Flexible and solutions-oriented thinking, while preserving academic rigour
●Excellent written and spoken communications skills
●Experience with working remotely and collaboratively in a virtual environment
●Ability to work independently in a fast-paced work environment
●Extensive experience as a scientific writer, eliciting, responding to and integrating expert input
●Experience related to conducting structured and/or systematic literature reviews, spanning both academic and grey literature,
●Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
●Home-based office, including computer with high-speed, reliable internet and phone.
