The Opportunity:


Manulife's Group Functions Risk Technology team is seeking to hire a data analyst to work on Software development projects. These projects are implemented in partnership with our Global Financial Risk management division in order to fulfill their technology demand and add/improve existing business capabilities.


Our team enjoys what they do daily as our complex and sophisticated projects pose numerous execution-related challenges and provide ample scope for application and learning.


Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with business owners to optimize data collection, storage and usage to maximize the value of information across the organization
  • Understand reporting needs for Financial Risk Subject Matter Experts by conducting interviews/workshops and reading existing documentation
  • Analyze the relationships between reporting and source data
  • Document transformations required for getting insight from the data
  • Collaborate with data engineers, architects, quality engineers to develop technology solutions that meet the digitization goals of the organization and the project
  • Work with the Lead Business Analyst and Data Engineer and help them in the delivery of projects
  • Develop PowerBI reports supporting reporting requirements of the technology team's business partners needs
  • Understand and Work with the dependencies between components of data infrastructure

What We Are Looking For


  • Understanding of drivers of data demand and how data is used
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy in dealing with others;
  • Familiarity with risk measurement methods like VaR, Economic Capital
  • Ability to understand and infer statistical data
  • Advanced Excel functions such as pivot tables, charts, v-lookup, conditional formatting, logic statements is desired.
  • Familiarity with capital markets and financials risk terminology
  • Familiar with technologies such as: PowerBI, Azure Data Lake, PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, SQL server
  • Understanding of how data strategy supports Manulife's strategy
  • Experience working with SQL server or similar relational database
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently;
  • Good organizational and problem-solving abilities that enable you to manage through creative abrasion
  • Familiar with scripting technologies such as: Python, SQL
  • Strong writing, communication and “story telling” skills;
  • Data analytical skills with exposure to tools like PowerBI, programming and querying languages like SQL, Python, pySpark
  • Good verbal and written communication; able to effectively articulate technical vision, possibilities, and outcomes

Salary & Benefits


The annual base salary for this role is listed below.


Primary Location


Toronto, Ontario


Salary range is expected to be between


$72,450.00 CAD - $134,550.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
