Overview of Forests OntarioForests Ontario’s mission is to foster a greener and healthier future for Ontario through large- scale forest and grassland restoration and management projects across the province. In addition, Forests Ontario delivers a wide range of educational and awareness initiatives to increase the public's appreciation and understanding of the social, economic, and ecological importance of forests and grasslands.
Forests Ontario is seeking a Restoration Programs Coordinator. The Restoration Programs Coordinator will report to the Restoration Programs Manager and supports Forests Ontario’s full suite of restoration services and programs. This position is responsible for coordinating, maintaining, updating, and analyzing restoration and tree planting project data collected and entered via web-portal. This position will carry out data analysis and develop documents, and reports in support of program development. The position will support program implementation, data management and partner support.
The candidate requires excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to support program outreach, communication, and reporting. The candidate will engage and communicate with a large network of conservation professionals, landowners, and partners on a regular basis to provide information about Forests Ontario’s tree planting programs and the Grasslands Stewardship Initiative. The candidate will respond to forestry and grassland stewardship related inquiries.
Key Responsibilities·Restoration database coordination, maintenance, and review of data.
·Support GIS mapping for restoration programs and others, as required.
·Assist in reviewing site plans and maps for potential restoration sites.
·Support the development and update of web-based communications for restoration programs, website, blog postings and/or other sources of web-based communication as required.
·Assist in developing program outreach materials for restoration programs and services.
·Assist in content development and coordinate meetings, workshops, and seminars for staff, partners, clients, and the general public.
·Initial development of reports, program summaries and project overviews to partners, funders, and clients.
·Respond to calls and email inquiries related to forestry and other restoration programs.
·Outreach and coordination with private landowners and organizations to maintain relationship and promote programming.
·Assessment and approval of restoration data entries, reports, and other program forms.
·Analyze data patterns to identify gaps, inefficiencies and areas for program and project growth.
·Assist with assembly and distribution of agreements for restoration programs and services.
·Assist in conducting and coordinating restoration programming site visits and survival assessments across Ontario. Complete assessments in a professional and efficient manner; ensure accurate record keeping of all pertinent data to fulfill all contractual obligations between Forests Ontario and our partners.
·Travel to various sites across Ontario and working remotely in adverse weather conditions.
·Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience·A degree or diploma in Forestry/Environmental Sciences/Fish & Wildlife with 2 – 5 years of field experience working in the forestry or restoration sector (planting and forest management.
·Forest/grassland inventory data collection, Ontario flora and fauna identification skills.
·Experience with Office 365 Suite and database applications. Familiarity with QGIS, RStudio and Avenza is considered an asset.
·Experience using GPS and GIS software to produce maps.
·Experience with data analysis and data management.
·Customer service experience.
·Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
·Strong organizational skills.
·Strong interpersonal, problem solving and decision management skills.
·Understanding of general finance and budgeting.
·Valid G Driver’s License.
·First Aid/Wilderness First Aid Training is considered an asset.
WORK HOURS: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, some weekend and evening work may be required.
SALARY: Based on years of relevant experience and qualifications.
