Job Description
Location: Hamilton, Ontario, Canada – Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm, Hybrid, in-person (3 days a week) and remote (2 days a week)


Travel: This position requires some national and international travel to meet with funders and stakeholders


THE OPPORTUNITY & DUTIES Jointly reporting to the Director and Assistant Director , Client is seeking a Research Program Manager with a successful track record of managing multiple, simultaneous complex research projects. The Research Program Manager has a critical leadership role on the team to orient and organize projects within the three main streams of activity: consulting, research and education. The Research Program Manager will lead the formulation of an annual program roadmap which establishes project priorities for the Institute based on strategic and funder objectives, and determines the resources needed to execute. They will also contribute to business plans for new opportunities and assess the viability of plans based on established goals, objectives and availability of resources. They will actively participate in business and strategy discussions with senior leaders to understand and influence the decision-making process for future business development opportunities. The Research Program Manager will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders by managing day-to-day research activities, developing workback execution plans for longer-term projects, understanding the institute's priorities, objectives, and strategy, and sharing feedback on key decisions. The Research Program Manager will provide a structured approach and accountability to the execution of multiple, dynamic projects to ensure on-time and in-scope delivery. They will lead the implementation and adherence to a project delivery model, which includes capturing project requirements, planning, assembling project teams, directing cross-functional staff, forecasting, tracking and monitoring progress. The Research Program Manager is also responsible for maintaining comprehensive project documentation and key performance indicators that effectively inform decision making, through briefs and reports to the leadership team and our funders. They will be responsible for conducting in-depth project meetings with internal and external stakeholders to determine scope of work, priorities, objectives and constraints. The Research Program Manager will serve as an operational lead within the institute, where they will develop and manage budgets for large scale projects and make recommendations on staffing resources to meet research program demands. They will be responsible for writing annual funding reports to report on key project outcomes and impact, financial health, and research priorities. The nature of our work requires a Research Program Manager who can adapt to changing priorities and lead as a change champion. This requires making instinctive adjustments to ensure alignment with the goals and objectives of our partners. This position provides an opportunity to contribute to the advancement of a leading Institute in applied ethics and global health research. QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate will have the following skills and qualifications.


  • Certified Project Management Professional.
  • Decisive insight and critical thinking skills to effectively problem-solve and align staff and resources in challenging and complex situations.
  • Must possess strong relationship management skills to build trusting and productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to demonstrate a high level of tact and diplomacy.
  • Interest in and/or willingness to master the issues and priorities within global health.
  • Demonstrated experience with developing comprehensive project documentation and tracking to allow for monthly and annual reporting on outcomes and deliverables.
  • Minimum of five to seven years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the specific accountabilities of the position.
  • Master's Degree in related field required.
  • Experience or familiarity with managing multiple research grants.
  • Leadership ability that inspires confidence and credibility, and continually seeks to understand and act upon internal and external requirements, concerns and priorities.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing demands and work under pressure at a high level of effectiveness in a fast paced, high-volume environment.
  • In-depth experience with project management tools, including management of project scope, critical-path, timeline, risks, and resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce innovative solutions to meet unique needs and achieve service excellence.
  • Must be available to travel internationally (minimum 2-4 times annually)
