Senior Autism Therapist
- Contract Full-Time (1FTE) – 37.5 hours/week
- September 2023 – June 30, 2024
Reporting to the Clinical Manager, and under the clinical supervision of the Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA), the Senior Autism Therapist works as part of a team of clinicians to provide therapeutic interventions through direct client care and delegated clinical oversight in applied behaviour analysis. The Senior Autism Therapist is delegated clinical supervisory duties by the Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) so that they may provide clinical supervision and oversight to clients and clinicians in Grandview programs such as: Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) programs, Purchased Services/Social Enterprise and Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services- Ontario Autism Program (OAP) funded programs. Direct service is carried out by clinicians such as: Autism Therapy Assistants (ATAs) or directly by the Senior Autism Therapist. Additionally the Senior Autism Therapist supports Centre program maintenance and development; ensures that the treatment environment and programming materials meet the client's needs; maintains clinical competence; maintains communication with all other staff members; supports program/Centre efforts in QIRMP activities; participates in education, orientation and public; maintains a safe work environment; performs designated administrative duties; and performs other related duties.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Collaborating with other professionals, as required for problem solving, goal development and skill generalization;
- Conducting home and community observations as required to assess, program from, and/or make recommendations about client identified goals.
- Observing client sessions and providing feedback on clinical implementation of interventions as it relates to client progress and to ensure ABA based programming maintains a high level of treatment adherence and integrity
- Evaluating the outcome of ABA-based interventions/ client progress.
- Integrating the client into community settings, as appropriate, to promote skill generalization
- Assisting staff with identifying issues, problem-solving and decision-making around service delivery;
- Developing, facilitating, and evaluating ABA-based curricula for children/youth with ASD and their families for individual and group programming; this may also include: writing, and implementation of curriculum
- Conducting and overseeing parent/caregiver training and participating in progress review meetings.
- Supporting staff in development of clinical skills;
- Supporting implementation of treatment strategies to facilitate goal achievement. Teaching methods will be documented fully and according to the expectations of an ABA program
- Completing ongoing clinical supervision of client intervention by attending client sessions live, as delegated by the supervising BCBA.
- Conducting direct and indirect assessments of clients through parent/caregiver interviews or questionnaire, completing curriculum/skills based assessments and participating in the treatment planning process by supporting with establishing treatment goals and plans in collaboration with the client and family. Goals will be based on parent/caregiver goals, client self-identified goals, and assessment outcomes. This includes writing and implementing written treatment plans.
- Providing consultation to family/caregiver to assist in the generalization of new skills into the home setting and community through implementation of treatment strategies that can be used outside of the treatment setting;
- Providing direct and indirect client care in accordance with the treatment plan in individual and group treatment settings
- Ensuring appropriate documentation is in place related to parental consent for agencies to communicate;
- Collaborating with caregivers, other Grandview clinicians, community agencies, schools, as appropriate;
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally with team members, parents/guardians, school staff community partners etc.
- Undergraduate degree in Behaviour Analysis, Psychology, or a related field with a combination of additional academic programming emphasizing applied behaviour analysis which may include working towards or completion of a Masters Degree
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
- BCaBA Certification with the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board, preferred (or working towards BCBA certification or post certification hours for placement on the OAP Provider List)
- Demonstrated experience in student or clinician oversite/training in ABA practices
- Bilingual (French) is asset
- Minimum 1 years’ experience engaging in supervising ABA programming under the clinical supervision of a BCBA
- Certified in Non-Violent Crisis intervention and Prevention or equivalent and Current First Aid and CPR Certification preferred
- Well-developed verbal, non-verbal and written communication, including negotiation and presentation skills
- Minimum 2 years’ experience delivering ABA programming
- Exceptional listening, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Experience training parents/caregivers to implement Behaviour Support Plans using Behaviour Skills Training
- Demonstrated experience in data analysis resulting in data based programming decision making
- Demonstrated experience in program writing and implementation
This position is a member of the bargaining unit which is represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, and as such will be bound under the terms of the collective agreement.
