We are seeking a highly motivated Principal Software Developer with strong backend experience to join our team. Responsibilities

• Work with a cross-functional, agile team to understand and refine functional requirements
• Participate in peer code reviews
• Available to work with geographically dispersed teams (including New Zealand time-zone until at least 10.30 a.m. NZST - if applying from outside New Zealand)
• Develop high quality code and collaborate on technical designs
• Write and maintain automated tests to ensure that software is stable and reliable
• Ensure new code conforms to standards and meets feature specifications

Minimum Qualifications

• In-depth understanding and experience applying software design principles and patterns
• Experience with frontend development is a plus (angular, javascript, or related)
• Strong technical troubleshooting skills
• Proficient software development practices including testing (unit and functional) and code reviews
• University degree in computer sciences or software engineering
• Expert level programming skills with Java (strong backend development skills)
• 8+ years of professional work experience in product development
• Experience designing and working with APIs

Preferred Qualifications

• Meticulous eye for detail and passion for beautiful user experiences
• Experience developing SaaS applications
• Video encoding and streaming technology knowledge
• Experience working in a distributed cross-functional team environment
• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and DevOps
• Industry training and certifications with AWS and related technologies
• You actively speak up, collaborate, and contribute ideas to the team
• Experience in working with databases including both relational and NoSQL
