Badger Infrastructure Solutions Ltd. is seeking a Plant Manager in our Red Deer manufacturing facility. The Plant Manager’s focus is to organize and oversee the manufacturing of customized Hydrovac vehicles. This position has accountability for the smooth operation of production facility by matching the production output with the established plan while meeting the quality objectives. The Plant Manager must have the ability to adapt processes and procedures while building a strong team to maximize employee retention and enhance performance capabilities. This role drives changes and directs the teams by showing outstanding people and transformational skills. Responsible for improvement of production lines and ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements are adhered to by employees and contractors. Implements and manages continuous improvement in product and material flow, manufacturing processes, and quality.


  • Interfaces with Safety Advisor ensuring health and safety consideration are integrated in all production, operations and additions or changes.
  • Drives overall operational excellence through the application of “best in class” Lean practices and processes. Ensures total Lean enterprise disciplines across all business processes.
  • Represents direct manager within the factory in their absence
  • Develops and implements manufacturing strategic plans in partnership with Engineering and SCM that support top-performing business objectives.
  • Drives continuous improvement activities in quality, cycle times, process improvement through Lean techniques collaborate with Manufacturing Engineer to enhance the capability of existing processes and remove waste.
  • Develops and executes a 1-year business plan ensuring alignment with the overall strategic plan and immediate manager’s business plan.
  • Builds a strong operations talent base, partners with human resources and peers to develop talent management strategies and plans to support short and long-range business plans.
  • Authority to direct labor to meet productivity and delivery targets
  • Authority per financial authority matrixes (in relation to equipment needs within the factory)
  • Identifies and prioritizes manufacturing challenges based on root cause identification in operational key result areas and recommends changes for quality performance, continuous improvement, cost effectiveness and excellent customer service.
  • Manages direct labor, indirect and salary staff headcount requirements under his/her area of responsibilities to meet targets and at the same time remain competitive. Recommends increases and decreases within labor classifications as needed to support manufacturing requirements.
  • Ensures manufacturing targets are achieved through collaborative objective planning through a high level of involvement with other managers, supervisors, and employees.
  • Builds capabilities, tools, and processes to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO).
  • Institutes a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Drives excellence in safety, quality, delivery, and cost through the manufacturing spectrum.
  • Recommends infrastructure maintenance and purchasing of equipment, supplies, etc.
  • Defines and implements manufacturing plant processes and activities to optimize flow efficiency and maximize capacity planning.
  • Performs root cause analysis and resolve problems.


Qualifications


  • Understanding of quality standards and health and safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability of strong decision-making skills, problem-solving skills, and a results-driven approach.
  • Demonstrated ability of driving continuous process improvement.
  • Able to collaborate well with other personnel to enable various reporting requirements.
  • Education: Minimum of 7 years’ experience in production management.
  • Experience in developing and reporting on key performance metrics.
  • Proficient in MS Office and ERP software and planning software.
  • Knowledge of performance evaluation concepts.
  • Fully applies oneself to the requirements of the position
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing exposure would be an asset, ongoing training and development will be required to enhance future planning development.
  • Excellent organizational and leaderships skills. Demonstrated ability to develop and coach talent and manage change and conflict.


Will be required to successfully complete pre-employment screening, which may include criminal background check, driver’s abstract review and drug and alcohol test.


Successful candidates must provide their own safety footwear -CSA/ANSI approved, steel or composite toe, puncture resistant, min.15 cm (6”) high, min. 1.2cm (½’) heel)- which will be reimbursed after successfully completing 3 month of employment. Other personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vests, etc.) will be provided.


Badger Daylighting, and its parent company Badger Infrastructure Solutions Ltd. (TSX:BDGI), is North America’s largest provider of non-destructive excavating services. We work for contractors and facility owners in a broad range of infrastructure industries, including energy generation, electricity and natural gas transmission networks, roads and highways, telecommunications, water and sewage treatment and general municipal infrastructure.


Our key technology is the Badger HydrovacTM, which is used primarily for safe excavation around critical infrastructure and in congested underground conditions. The Badger Hydrovac uses a pressurized water stream to liquefy the soil cover, which is then removed with a powerful vacuum system and deposited into a storage tank. Badger manufactures and designs our truck-mounted hydrovac units, giving us the opportunity to incorporate feedback from our hydrovac operators into existing and future design and manufacturing processes.
