We currently have a great opportunity as a Assistant Plant Manager. This role is based in our Edmonton PVC plant and reports to the Plant Manager.

Job Summary


The Assistant Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily plant operations. Supervise production process to ensure plant production goals and quality standards are met. Responsible for achieving sustainable results and improvement goals in safety, customer service, quality, operational excellence, cost & productivity, inventory management and organizational capability.


Principal Responsibilities


  • Support Plant Manager in organizing and managing day-to-day activities for plant operations.
  • Other duties as assigned by Plant Manage
  • Schedule routine inspection and maintenance of plant equipment to prevent machine downtime.
  • Leads daily meeting with supervisors/managers in assigning and prioritizing daily activities for the plant.
  • Ensure plant employees are following and enforce safety policies and procedures.
  • Supervise plant operations to meet production requirements in timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Optimize plant operations to meet quality and production standards.
  • Implement cost reduction initiatives to minimize plant and labour expenditures.
  • Develop systems and process that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics, and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets.
  • Implement continuous plant improvements for increased productivity and scrap reduction.
  • Determine resource requirements, work allocation and production deadlines to achieve production objectives.
  • Ensures tracking, daily management and use of key performance indicators (KPI’s) to promote improved operational and business results.
  • Set overall plant policies and procedures to ensure effective operations.
  • Drives positive cultural change as a change agent within the plants to engage employees towards a high-performance work systems culture.
  • Maintain proper documentation for all plant related activities.
  • Ensure materials, supplies and equipment are readily and continuously available for workers to carry out production process.
  • Evaluate current operations and make recommendations for improving efficiency and productivity
  • Coordinate with Plant Management in resolving plant issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring emergency response plan is reviewed regularly and updated as per HSE policy and OHS regulations. Being available 24hr in case of emergency situations and leading the emergency response.
  • Ensure plant compliance with company policies and government regulations.


Qualifications & Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or experience in Management preferred
  • Certification and/or experience with Six Sigma Process and Lean Manufacturing considered an asset
  • Degree in Engineering considered an asset


Technical Skills


  • Shipping and logistic experience considered an asset
  • Minimum 5 years’ supervisory experience in manufacturing environment
  • Experience with ISO standards
  • Must be proficient with MS Office Suite

Key Relationships


Leads daily meeting with supervisors/managers and work with all levels of management. Works closely with Heath & Safety Team.
