Plant Manager:
Established in 1924, Standens is a Canadian manufacturing company making alloy steel products that are formed, forged, upset, threaded or heat-treated for a variety of markets. As one of North America’s largest full-line leaf spring, suspension component and agricultural tillage tool manufacturers, Standens prides itself on quality products and services.
We are registered to the ISO 14001 international environmental standard, the ISO 9001 international quality standard and in 2010, we were successful in obtaining our Certificate of Recognition (COR), Alberta’s only safety standard recognized by Occupational Health & Safety.
Standens manufacturing facility is situated on 15 acres in the industrial heart of Calgary with over 250,000 square feet of space, and is complete with administrative offices, engineering and design, production, assembly, warehousing, quality assurance and shipping.
General Description:
The Plant Manager oversees all areas of manufacturing to direct activities such that approved products are manufactured on-schedule and within quality, safety, environmental and cost objectives. This position provides leadership in the manufacturing environment and manages these tasks through the appropriate delegation of responsibilities. The Plant Manager must have strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of success in a manufacturing environment. A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations management, or a related field is preferred, along with several years of experience in a manufacturing leadership role.

Requirements:
- Hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other best practices in continuous improvement
- Strong business sense, positive attitude, and a high energy level to lead a growing manufacturing operation
- Very strong analytical, strategic thinking, project management and problem-solving capabilities
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, deliver results, and inspire teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to interact with and influence a variety of cross-functional teams at all levels of the organization
- Proven people leadership and team building capabilities
Responsibilities:
- Take initiative in identifying and managing risk within the manufacturing process
- Develop and implement a comprehensive manufacturing strategy that aligns with the company’s overall goals and objectives and conforms to established customer and company quality standards (ISO 9001:2005, ISO 14001:2015 and other customer specifications)
- Develop and manage budgets for assigned functional groups, ensuring that expenses are within the approved limits
- Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize operations, production efficiency, quality and cost effective manufacturing processes, and service delivery
- Mentorship and support of the production team, including management of all aspects of workforce supervision, planning, training, evaluating, and upgrading
- Manage and oversee all aspects of the manufacturing process, including production planning, scheduling, and execution, materials management, quality control, and maintenance
- Ensure that the manufacturing process is scalable, adaptable, and can respond quickly to changing business needs
- Establish strong, collaborative partnerships with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Finance, HR, Supply Chain to ensure effective collaboration across the organization
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for responsible functional groups, tracking progress, and adjust as necessary
- Lead and manage a team of manufacturing professionals, ensuring that they are motivated, trained, and developed to meet business needs
