Position Overview


Reporting to the Director, People and Culture, the Payroll and Benefits Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of payroll processing and employee benefit programs for institutions within the GUS Canada Colleges division. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in streamlining processes across our institutions.


Responsibilities:


  • Support the implementation of HRIS modules and manage the integrity of the system information as it pertains to payroll applications. Evaluate processes and tools to improve operational efficiency.
  • Manage the company's benefits programs, including health benefit packages, leave policies, RRSPs, and other employee benefits. Research and advise on benefit-related decisions that align with People and Culture strategies.
  • Communicate benefits information to employees, address queries and provide guidance on enrollment processes.
  • Collaborate with People and Culture teams to manage employee records, process timely updates to salary and employment status changes, and maintain accurate payroll and benefit data in the company’s HRIS.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and support the People and Culture team with projects and initiatives.
  • Serve as subject matter expert to resolve payroll and benefit-related inquiries and discrepancies promptly and professionally.
  • Other related duties assigned.
  • Stay up to date on related legislation and ensure all practices are compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Oversee and manage payroll and benefits operations and provide leadership and training to the team.
  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance with applicable legislation and policies. Process all payroll-related documents and records including ROEs, T4s, remittances, reconciliations.
  • Monitor benefits utilization and trends and provide recommendations for improvements and updates.


Education and Experience:


  • Experience leading a team is an asset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 7+ years progressive payroll experience
  • PCP or PLP Certification with the National Payroll Institute.
  • 3+ years experience with benefit administration.


Skills and Competencies:


  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and tact.
  • Expertise with HRIS modules, experience working with Ceridian Dayforce is a strong asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, expert knowledge of Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable provincial employment legislation and tax regulations.


Working Conditions:


  • Office-first hybrid work model. This position will be expected to work onsite a minimum of 2 days per week or as required based on business needs.
