CONPENSATION: $43,289 - $45,883 Annually Prorated

To help fulfill our mission, LOFT is hiring Overnight Support Worker.


JOB SUMMARY:


The Overnight Support Worker provides a range of services and support to adult clients who have experienced homelessness, mental health and addiction issues in a residential support site. The position performs a variety of functions to support the physical, social and mental well-being of clients and facilitates the overall effective operation of the residences. This location specializes in providing support to individuals that identify as Trans or gender expansive. This person will be required to work alone and to provide a range of supports to residents and the program including monitoring the activities of the residents, assessing and responding to potential crisis situations, providing basic maintenance and cleaning of the building common areas, supervising the property and keeping an up-to-date inventory of supplies.


WHAT YOU WILL DO:


  • Build rapport with each client to enable them to meet the daily requirements of their housing environment and a healthy lifestyle.
  • Participate in the administration activities of the program.
  • Participate actively as a team member in program delivery activities.
  • Maintain the operation of the house and property by conducting security, fire, health and safety checks.
  • Assist with resident routines, maintain general awareness of the activities or whereabouts of residents in the house.
  • Independently provide a range of support to residents including monitoring their activities, assess and respond to potential crisis situations.
  • Assist residents with physical disabilities or chronic illnesses by providing care in their daily activities.
  • Monitor and report on resident’s health and wellbeing; assist with medications.
  • Increase residents’ awareness of safety issues.
  • Resolve issues related to shared living, mediate conflicts between residents, or between residents and neighbours.
  • Administer basic first aid as required and activate the appropriate emergency procedures.
  • Clean and assist clients to clean designated areas of the residence.
  • Identify potential issues and communicate to day staff, or note incidents as required.
  • Document all overnight activity, incidents or events in appropriate logs and files.
  • Carry out crisis intervention activities with serious or unexpected problems.


WHAT YOU BRING:


  • Problem solving skills.
  • Understanding of cultural competency and anti-oppression framework.
  • Understanding of harm reduction, the logic model and psychosocial rehabilitation principles.
  • Reflective of a multi-barriered group, as serviced by the program, a strong asset.
  • An understanding of the therapeutic relationship with an ability to negotiate with clients on goals and priorities.
  • Good crisis intervention skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and counselling skills.
  • First Aid and CPR certification with fluency in a second language an asset.
  • Experience working with the client population.
  • Written skills in keeping records or updating logs.
  • Knowledge of a housing first approach and understanding of health and support services for transgender and gender fluid identified clients.
  • Computer literacy sufficient to produce and maintain files, records or statistical information.
  • Sensitivity, with an ability to interact with clients in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Experience in working with limited supervision but as part of a team of professionals.
  • Degree or Diploma in Human Services or equivalent.
  • A sound understanding of health and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of issues faced by vulnerable adults with special needs, which will include: addictions, cognitive impairments and low income.
  • Good analytical, time management and organisational skills.
