The Job
An Operator I leads by example and performs an integral part in plant production and operation. A hands-on approach is used to direct and train junior operators and open communication on an ongoing basis with the District Manager. Working with and under the direct supervision of more senior Operations staff, the Operator I is responsible to learn all aspects of warehouse operations and over time is expected to acquire the knowledge and skills required to assume a Lead position. They contribute to the overall effectiveness of the established quality system.
The Operator I has the following corporate responsibilities including, but not limited to:
- Use Ceridian Dayforce software, to track, log and verify hours worked, as well as vacation and sick time.
- Use computer terminals to locate SDS sheets and view Confluence pages to source information as well as SAP based software to enter appropriate information into our ERP system.
- Take samples of required raw materials and blended batches for submission to Quality Control for testing. Recognize when a product does not meet our specification and perform the required corrective actions provided by Quality Control staff.
- Research, develop and implement solutions to increase plant productivity, efficiency and profitability, all while retaining exceptional safety standards.
- Provide clear communication and direction to ensure the Production team functions efficiently.
- An employee may be called upon and expected from time to time to perform tasks not included in their specific job description.
- Identify dangerous materials from the WHMIS and TDG labels as well as SDS paperwork and understand what protective equipment must be used to safely handle them.
- Interpret and blend chemicals according to the provided Process Order & Material Consumption sheets.
- Perform an Area Specific Hazard Assessment for all jobs being completed and record it in their ASHA binder. Recognize and identify workplace hazards that need to be controlled and/or eliminated. Assist junior operators in completing their ASHA binders as required.
- Report required maintenance and repairs to the Manager, Facilities & Satellite Operations following the set procedures so they can be addressed quickly.
- Coordinate with the Material Movement Coordinator Calgary for movement and storage of raw materials, packaging materials, finished goods and NCR products both produced or required by the Production team.
- Perform the physical movements of all materials to meet our internal and external customer needs while maintaining a First In, First Out system.
- Help to create & update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) with the assistance of production staff, District Manager, Grande Prairie and the Manager, Facilities & Satellite Operations.
- Use computer terminals to locate SDS sheets and view Confluence pages to source information as well as SAP based software to enter appropriate information into our ERP system.
- To improve organizational awareness, increase employee flexibility and enhance employee skills, everyone will participate in inter-departmental cross training as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Relevant experience in an industrial warehouse environment is an asset.
- SAP ERP system knowledge is an asset.
- Working knowledge of Windows based computers and programs including Microsoft Office.
