Job Purpose

The Terminal Operator is responsible for overseeing the safe and accurate movement of petroleum products via a pipeline gathering system. The terminal operator will monitor conditions of the pipeline gathering system including product quality ensuring compliance with all safety and government regulations. This individual will ensure that the pipeline system and tank farm blending operation is operating at a high level of efficiency. This is a dual-purpose role which includes monitoring a pipeline system via SCADA equipment, working outside and in a lab performing basic product quality tests. This position will be located at our Brooks West Full-Service Terminal


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Communicate information exchange at end of shift
  • Prioritize and manage required console activities
  • Complete work permits, and job hazard assessments as required
  • Orientate site visitors / contractors
  • Perform sampling and quality control testing.
  • Day to day site activities including minor maintenance activities and housekeeping
  • Participate on incident reporting and resolution
  • Recognize / Respond appropriately to abnormal operating conditions and emergency situations
  • Conduct visitor and contractor orientations
  • Duties and responsibilities of this position are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Area Supervisor
  • Log all pertinent day to day data
  • Evaluate contractor performance
  • Field lab operator dealing with samples and quality control (on the job training)
  • Participate in Emergency Response Plan (ERP)training exercises
  • Operate and continuously monitor pipeline gathering system via SCADA control system with limited supervision (on the job training)
  • Perform plant rounds and equipment checks
  • Monitor truck offloading area and support drivers as required
  • Monitor leak detection and respond to alarm conditions
  • Ensure accurate on spec blending of multiple products
  • Troubleshoot mechanical & electrical problems


Qualifications/Competencies

The individual in this role will have:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to safe and efficient operations of the pipeline system
  • A High School Diploma, General Education Diploma or equivalent
  • Must demonstrate a high level of integrity and accountability to OPS supervisor / Facility Manager.
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and safe work practices
  • Pipeline and lab experienced preferred, but candidate will receive on the job training.
  • A valid and acceptable Driver’s license and successful completion of Pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to multi-task and demonstrate good decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to work well under limited amount of supervision
  • Ensure consistent and clear communication with the Area Supervisor and other internal & external stakeholders
  • Must be able to clearly and accurately document their work and ensure consistent communication with the Area Supervisor and other key stakeholders


Please Note

  • This position is located at our Brooks West Full-Service Terminal
  • No company vehicle provided for this role.
  • Rotation is 7 on 7 off rotating day and night shifts
  • Must be able to work on a rotating shift (including nights on occasion)
