Campus & Community Recreation is the host of multiple wellness activities and events that run throughout the University of Alberta campus. This includes recreational events and programs that are available at North Campus as well as South Campus.

Position


The Recreation Facility Operator (RFO) is one of 4 full-time and 10 casual staff members reporting to the RFO Supervisor. The Operator is responsible for the daily operation of Van Vliet Complex, oversight of gymnasiums located in adjacent buildings and surrounding recreational spaces, including sports fields managed by CCR. The RFO supports the safe, efficient and positive use of sport and recration facilities managed by CCR. The Operator creates positive client experiences by interacting with clients as they monitor facility access and liaise with event supervisors, and by monitoring the saety and cleanliness of the facility through highly visible facility monitoring. The Operator’s daily activities include facility opening/closing procedures; equipment set up and take down; access monitoring through OneCard checks; laundry service; operation, maintenance and repair of equipment, client interactions and casual staff coordination responsibilities in several task areas including hazard assessment, facility inspections, key management, incident reporting and data collection; and facility specific operational duties (fields, arena and pool). The RFO will be assigned the role of Supervisor on Duty on some shifts, requiring the Operator to interact with all staff within the facility, take a lead role in emergency management, safety and security of the building and assist in the resolution of conflicts that may arise. The fulfillment of these tasks is critical to the seamless operation of the building.


The position requires a commitment to excellent public relations, facility operations, the ability to manage time, lead a team, make decisions and multi-task.


Duties


  • Operate laundry service including laundry equipment and folding;
  • Monitor and clean activity spaces to ensure these spaces are safe and provide positive user experiences;
  • Maintain, repair and provide user support for facility equipment;
  • Lead, coordinate and oversee casual staff members within the facility while performing Supervisor on Duty roles.
  • Perform set up and take down duties as required for various events including exams, sporting events and trade shows;
  • Respond to emergency situations. Lead, support and assist staff members in managing first response;
  • Liaise with event organizers to ensure the facility and equipment needs of the event are met;
  • Conduct job hazard assessments and inspections to ensure a safe workspace;
  • During evenings and weekends (as scheduled) perform duties of Supervisor on Duty, maintaining regular contact with staff located in sport and activity specific areas, acting as a resource and providing guidance, support and leadership as required.
  • Monitor facility use through regular monitoring of all facility spaces managed by Campus & Community Recreation, delivering customer service techniquest that build positive public relations and customer rapport;
  • Coordinate asset management activities


Minimum Qualifications


  • HSE Supervisory Development Program training will be required upon employment;
  • Intermediate First Aid and CPR Level C certification required
  • Excellent communication skills required
  • Class 5 Drivers License with a clear abtract required
  • High School Diploms required
  • Skills in conflict management and customer service are essential
  • Able to work a variable work schedule spanning 5:30am – 11:00 pm 7 days/week
  • University of Alberta Workplace Violence and Harassment Prevention training will be required upon employment;
  • Police Information Check is required


Preferred Qualifications


  • Arena, Pool and Field operators certifications are assets
  • Forklift operator training is an asset
  • Fall arrest and aerial lift training is an asset
  • Undergraduate degree in Kinesiology, Recreation or Business field is an asset
