INSTRUCTOR, THERAPEUTIC RECREATION


FACULTY OF HEALTH STUDIES


NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for someone dedicated to finding ways forward to join our Faculty of Health Studies team as temporary, full-time instructor in our Therapeutic Recreation program.


If you are someone who is looking to join a dynamic team of individuals who practice a we>they approach to delivering quality education, then the TR Instructor position is for you. Reporting to the Program Chair, the TR Instructor will work alongside like-minded individuals dedicated to helping our learners acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for future practice in Therapeutic Recreation. This position requires someone who is dependable, possesses excellent communication skills, likes to work with people, and has a desire to play at work & work at play.

This is temporary full-time position from September 11, 2023 – December 31, 2024. The successful candidate must be able to teach in-person at the downtown Edmonton campus.


How You'll Make a Difference


  • Participate in professional development.
  • Participate and assist with curriculum development projects.
  • Contribute to the achievement of divisional and program unit goals.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.
  • Model professional behaviour at all times.
  • Provide instruction for both online and in-person classes.
  • Assess, monitor, and evaluate student performance and progress.
  • Supervision of students in both lab and practicum settings.
  • Prepare and deliver instructional material for both theory and lab courses.
  • Maintain appropriate student records and reports.
  • Manage student progress and provide resources to enhance student learning.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct.
  • Responsible for curriculum maintenance of instructional courses.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures of the program and college.
  • Demonstrate effective human relations skills.
  • Facilitate learning in a variety of methods including lecture, laboratory, and practicum learning.
  • Liaise with other instructional team members.
  • Provide feedback to the students in order to facilitate the successful completion of their diploma program.


What You Bring
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • 2+ years of experience in a post–secondary environment (or coursework in adult education).
  • Current professional member of ATRA (CTRS certification is an asset).
  • Experience teaching, mentoring, and/or developing curriculum.
  • If your education was received internationally we recommend you obtain an international education assessment through IQAS , WES , or one of the other nationally designated organizations.
  • 5+ years clinical experience in recreation therapy.
  • Computer skills and online teaching experience preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation (Masters’ degree an asset).

  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to evaluate student performance through various academic methods.


SALARY: Reflective upon what you bring, AKA your education and experience. This is a fulltime term position until Decemeber 31, 2023 with immediate access to our great pension and benefit programs.


This is a Faculty role therefore the pay range is quite large, the Faculty Association agreement Appendix A outlines how pay is determined.
