Job Description
GFL Environmental is seeking a General Manager to support our growing West Kootenays operations. Reporting to the Regional Vice President, British Columbia Solid Waste, the General Manager will be responsible to oversee the complete operations of two operations - Trail & Grand Forks, BC - in alignment with the regional and overall organization targets, processes and initiatives.
This role is directly related to our operational success and requires a mature, self-driven professional who can manage multiple priorities in a changing environment. This hands-on operational role will appeal to a dynamic, transformative and adaptable Operations professional, one with the ability to build a role in an evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise with management and regional peers to execute on operational activities and strategic goals
  • Strong leadership skills focused on results and teamwork, with a client service orientation
  • Oversee day to day operations of commercial and residential collection service
  • Ensure all safety guidelines and policies are strictly adhered to
  • Plan and monitor staffing plans to ensure effective and efficient running of the day-to-day operations
  • Manage relationships/agreements with contracts to ensure compliance
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure and adapt to evolving priorities and timelines
  • Ability to resolve matters independently, while using appropriate judgment to seek guidance and counsel as required to navigate complex matters
  • Take appropriate action to meet and exceed established financial targets
  • Logistical decisions, ensuring consistent operations of day-to-day collection schedules
  • Evaluate regularly the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives, adjusting as needed
  • Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing and interpreting data
  • Build deep and trust relationships with a variety of clients and customers, ensuring contractual compliance and proactively responding to and resolving concerns or issues
Requirements
  • Experience working in a large complex multiple stakeholder environments
  • 3-5 years of experience in progressive operational leadership roles, with a demonstrated commitment to safety
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Minimum class 3 license or pursuit of
  • Travel across the region will be required
  • Waste industry experience preferred; equivalencies will be considered
