General Manager - Resorts / First Nations
Vancouver Island
Our client is a progressive First Nations organization with several operating businesses that will be overseen by the General Manager. Candidates with First Nations, resort management, economic development and other related experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
Overview: The General Manager reports to two Boards and is responsible for managing the Operating Sector as well as Economic Development in accordance with best management practices. This position involves overseeing various aspects of the business group's operations, ensuring its long-term benefit for the company and the community's support.
Governance Protocol:
· Demonstrates a deep commitment to fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity among all members and employees.
· Plays a key role in effectively implementing the Governance Protocol throughout the organization.
· Assures adherence to the Governance Protocol, which precisely outlines roles, responsibilities, and decision-making schemes for the business group.
· Facilitates open communication and cooperation between different parties involved in the Governance Protocol.
· Diligently documents any identified issues with the protocol, proposing well-thought-out recommendations for improvement.
· Collaborates with stakeholders to continuously refine and enhance the Governance Protocol, ensuring its effectiveness and relevance over time.
Operations Responsibilities:
· Oversees all operations of the Operating Sector, ensuring seamless and efficient management.
· Implements and upholds best management practices to optimize productivity and performance.
· Demonstrates effective leadership by supervising and guiding staff, fostering a cohesive and motivated team.
· Coordinates and mobilizes workers, aligning efforts to achieve organizational objectives.
· Assumes responsibility for hiring the right talent and making strategic decisions regarding workforce composition.
· Engages in contract management, skillfully negotiating favourable terms and agreements.
· Presents regular and comprehensive reports to the Operating Board, offering insights into financial performance and operational achievements.
Business Development:
· Develops ideas and concepts for fresh business initiatives.
· Explores opportunities for growth and advances proposals with merit.
· Works closely with the Operating Board to develop strategic and annual plans.
· Analyzes market trends and competitor strategies to identify potential areas for growth and expansion.
Risk Management:
· Monitors and manages risks associated with the Operating Sector.
· Maintains a risk register and provides effective risk identification and consideration.
· Recommends improvements and contingency plans.
Reporting:
· The General Manager prepares regular reports for the Operating Board.
· Provides updates on activities and financial performance.
· Presents reports orally at board meetings and may give presentations at Member Meetings.
Qualifications:
· Candidates should possess strong leadership and management skills.
· Experience with First Nations or Indigenous Communities strongly preferred.
· Deep understanding of business operations and economic development.
· Ability to work collaboratively with multiple Boards and other members.
· Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
· Financial acumen and risk management expertise.
