Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Métis Financial Corporation of BC Inc.’s (MFCBC) mission is to provide trusted financial services for Métis entrepreneurs in BC.


MFCBC’s vision is to be Métis entrepreneur’s financer of choice and to position Métis entrepreneurs and businesses to be able to fully participate in new and future economic opportunities.


MFCBC’s mandate and structure permits the organization to provide loans to Métis entrepreneurs that commercial lenders such as banks and credit unions may not be able to provide. MFCBC seeks to strengthen the Métis economy through economically viable Métis owned and controlled businesses.


The General Manager (GM) provides strategic leadership, shaping MFCBC’s vision, and oversees all aspects of operations, serving as the link between the Board of Directors and operations, playing a pivotal role in advancing the goals and purpose MFCBC. In this capacity, the GM is responsible for providing operational leadership and management to MFCBC, aligning actions with the strategic goals and directions established by the Board of Directors. The GM will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of operations, leading a team and strategically guiding the organization towards growth and success.


The GM sets targets, prepares annual business plans and budgets, oversees all operations, delegates responsibilities, and monitors organizational performance. Additionally, the GM represents the organization in reporting to federal and provincial governments and other key stakeholders. The GM will serve a pivotal role in liaising and fostering key partnerships with Métis Nation of BC (MNBC) and other community partners.


The GM will have a deep understanding of Métis culture, a strong background in banking and finance, a record of accomplishment of driven operational excellence and delivering exceptional customer experiences, and a proven ability to lead with cultural sensitivity and inclusivity.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


Board Relations

•Reports to the Chair of the Board, advises and informs the Board of Directors routinely on all matters related to MFCBC.

•Ensures Board decisions are implemented in a timely manner.

•Oversees the organization and agenda preparation of the MFCBC Board Meetings.

•Attends meetings of the MFCBC Board and Board Committees.


Business Planning and Budgeting

•Sets targets, prepares annual business plans, and budgets and oversees all operations in accordance with the direction of the MFCBC Board.

•Oversees policy decisions and works to implement policy ensuring maintenance, compliance, and future development as necessary, bringing forward recommendations to the Board for discussion.

•Sets annual targets, prepares annual business plans and budgets.

•Analyzes and determines geographic needs.

•Creates, promotes, and fosters a desired image about “MFCBC” among Métis People, Métis entrepreneurs and businesses, the public, government, and other external entities.

•Oversees the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of business continuity planning to ensure organizational readiness and response in the face of different kinds of crises and changes in environment.

•Ensures all financial aspects of MFCBC are maintained and reported in an appropriate and timely manner.


Operational Leadership

•Provides strategic direction and leadership to operations, developing and executing initiatives that align with MFCBC’s goals and organizational targets. Drives economic development, financial inclusion and cultural awareness.

•Collaborates with the executive team to drive long-term growth and profitability.

•Oversees the financial performance of the organization, including budgeting, revenue generation and expense management. Analyzes data to inform decisions that drive growth and financial success.

•Leads all facets of the business from origination, deal execution, portfolio management, risk management and overall accountability for the growth and development of the business.

•Oversees the efficient design, development, implementation and operation of programs, activities and projects within the parameters of the MFCBC mandate and budget guidelines.

•Utilizes understanding of Métis culture, values, and history to shape banking products and services that are responsive to the unique financial needs of the Métis community.Drives innovation while considering the cultural context of the offerings.

•Advocates for Métis customers, ensuring their voices are represented and their financial needs are met within the financial services organization. Develop strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.


Regulatory Requirement and Risk Management

•Implements and monitors risk management strategies to mitigate potential risks and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and guidelines. Fosters a culture of risk awareness and adherence within the team.

•Ensures all operations within MFCBC adhere to relevant standards while respecting Métis rights and cultural sensitivities.

•Collaborates with staff at MFCBC to implement and monitor policies that mitigate compliance risks.

•Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes that could impact MFCBC’s operations.


Financial Performance and Measurement Data

•Oversees the organization’s financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, revenue generation and expense management.

•Analyzes financial reports to make informed decisions that drive growth and financial success while minimizing risks.

•Develops strategies to increase review through various products and services.

•Establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) for the operations and continuously monitor and analyze metrics to evaluate performance and identify areas for improvement.

Partnership Development

•Acts as the operational liaison between MFCBC and other parties including Métis Nation of BC (MNBC), Federal, Provincial and Municipal government departments, Indigenous entities, business and corporate structures, financial bodies, and other third parties to create and develop partnership opportunities for the betterment of MFCBC’s goals and objectives.

•Fosters strong relationships with Métis business leaders and entrepreneurs, organizations, and individuals, building trust and collaboration. Collaborates on initiatives that support financial education, entrepreneurship, and community development.

•Strategically identifies and explores business development opportunities through market research, analysis, and proactive engagement with potential stakeholders, prepares and oversees the preparation of proposals.

•Negotiates agreements on behalf of MFCBC Board and when required, recommends to the MFCBC Board for final approval.

•Ensures all internal and external reporting expectations are satisfied.

•Engages in strategic partnership development through exceptional negotiation to establish mutually beneficial agreements and collaborations between MFCBC and its partners.

Customer Experience

•Champions a customer-centric culture by promoting exceptional service standards.

•Implements initiatives to enhance the customer experience, attract new customers and retain existing ones.

•Addresses customer concerns and feedback to maintain high levels of satisfaction.

Supervision Given

•Supervises management of all operations.

•Fosters an environment of respect, inclusion, and teamwork. Provides mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members.

•Overall supervision of all MFCBC staff.


QUALIFICATIONS:

•Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field; master's degree preferred.

•Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in financial services; a focus on the Métis community is preferred.

•Strong business acumen, with a deep understanding of financial services and banking, market dynamics, industry trends, and competitive landscape.

•Knowledge and/or awareness of the historical and contemporary contributions made by Métis people in BC, with the ability to bridge cultural gaps and develop culturally sensitive financial solutions.

•Proven leadership and people management experience, including managing diverse teams and driving strategic initiatives.

•Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with Métis businesses and entrepreneurs and community members, with the ability to engage and influence a diverse range of stakeholders.

•Knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.

•Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to drive business growth and profitability.

•Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret financial data and industry trends.

•Empathy, respect, and a commitment to fostering inclusivity and cultural awareness.

•Regular/ occasional attendance at meetings/ events that may require work and travel outside of normal business hours.

•Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license and access to reliable personal vehicle for work purposes.

•Ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
