Note:-The City of Winnipeg Innovation & Technology Department requires a Senior Network Architect to complete a
next-generation network architecture and design for the City’s network service and assist with transitional planning
to achieve that desired future state.
The Innovation & Technology Department reserves the right to award any future phases of work to the
selected candidate(s) from the selected vendor
Under the supervision of the Manager of Architecture & Risk, the Senior Network Architect will:
• Engage with stakeholders to determine future requirements for the City’s next generation network
service.
• Identification and refinement of a future state network service to enable the City’s IT strategy.
• Determination of the City’s current state network service, including administrative, process, and technical
controls, and compare against that future state to identify gaps and dependencies.
• Develop a prioritized roadmap to implement the future state while minimizing negative organizational
disruption and demonstrating incremental value.
• Work with vendor partners to refine implementation roadmap initiatives while implementing standards
vendor deployment patterns for achieving optimal supportability and maintainability.
Experience:
• 10 years of experience in network design and architecture, including the development and
implementation of strategic plans and associated roadmaps within large, complex organizations with multiple
locations.
• 5 years of experience in developing network designs and architectures to accommodate both significant
cloud and third-party data center resource deployments.
• Experience conducting structured workshops and interviews with stakeholders to identify relevant
architectural requirements.
• Experience designing and implementing network security controls using other reference architectures and
standards, such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
• Experience engaging with product vendors and their reference architectures to support design and
implementation planning.
• Experience with network control design and implementation, including security controls.
Skills and Depth:
• A University Degree in a related discipline (Computer Science or Computer Engineering) or an equivalent
combination of experience and training.
• Familiarity with current networking design and implementation, specifically designing networks to
accommodate increased adoption of cloud-based services.
• Information System Professional certification (CISSP) would be an asset.
• Working knowledge of Enterprise Architecture frameworks such as SABSA, SAFe, and TOGAF.
• Ability to work independently as a senior level resource.
• Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
Note: The working hours are seven (7) hours per day, excluding breaks and lunch between the hours of 8:30 AM
and 4:30 PM CDT, from Monday through Friday excluding holidays
