QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have extensive experience doing literature reviews, preparing surveys and using survey software. Experience doing queries and reports in Access or other database software is an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing multiple priorities, tight timelines and stressful situations. Ability to remain calm under stressful conditions.
- A Master’s degree in Public Administration, Policy and Administration, Political Studies, Sociology or a related discipline required.
- Must be able to work in teams, understand and respect confidentiality and meet deadlines. A positive attitude, receptivity to direction, respectful approach towards members and co-workers, maturity and a high level of self-motivation are essential.
- A minimum of two years’ experience working as a Researcher or Policy Analyst.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Positions in this classification provide research and research support services. Incumbents are expected to conduct surveys, prepare and tabulate questionnaires, compile and summarize accumulated data, prepare standard statistical summaries (totals, averages, means, percentages, etc.), prepare summary reports and proposals, record and assemble data, prepare more complex statistical data (standard deviations, probabilities, distributions, etc.) provide reports and analysis in support of collective bargaining, Labour Board hearings and other initiatives, as well as provide technical guidance in the design of research assignments. Incumbents have responsibility for the development, administration and analysis of proposed or existing research projects or programs; however incumbents typically work under the direction of senior staff but may also oversee the input of accounting and administrative staff on various research projects, as required. Incumbents may perform a combination of one or all of the following duties and responsibilities:
- Review MNU materials (i.e. booklets, brochures, publications, reports, manuals and others as assigned) to ensure they remain current and relevant and reports to management on requirements for information updates
- Conduct research assignments, including statistical and interpretive analysis of gathered data
- Keep current on nursing related information, including but not limited to: labour legislation, negotiations, collective agreements, economic indicators, nursing and related salaries, patient and nurse demographics, the changing environment in health care ranging from working conditions to patient acuity, workload staffing report results, nursing shortage(s) or education/training models
- Compile, prepare content and write drafts for MNU briefs, reports and other materials as assigned
- Identify and maintain a database of relevant statistical and issue-related sources- including running reports for the Workload Staffing forms
- Extract and assemble information from reports, publications and other source materials into appropriate forms and formats
- Participate in planning, development, implementation and analysis of research tools, including but not limited to questionnaires, surveys, polls and focus groups
- Develop and maintain a computer data bank and an annotated bibliography of information and research conducted by/for MNU
- Collect, compile and analyze information
- Perform any other related duties consistent with this classification as assigned.
- Along with Senior Management, monitor current and proposed legislative changes that impact MNU or its members and assist the Executive Director and/or Senior Manager of Communications in the preparation and collection of materials for information briefs summarizing such changes to the Senior Management Team and/or the Board of Directors
- At the direction of the Executive Director or MNU President, prepare or assist in the preparation of MNU submissions for committee on new legislation impacting MNU or its members and assist in the collection of general and/or background information to provide advice to Senior Management and/or the MNU President with respect to government relations
- Maintain and operate all aspects of the MNU reference materials and library
