Mandate


The Senior Messaging Support Specialist reports to the Senior Manager, Infrastructure Operations. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the BMO messaging services. Currently the messaging infrastructure consists of Exchange On-prem, Exchange Online, On-Prem IronPort Email Security Appliances, Proofpoint Email Security and a cloud-based email archiving solution. Email services are considered a critical business service and is supported on a 24/7 basis.


Accountabilities


  • Analyzes and successfully resolves problems and outages to software products
  • Contributes to BMO Financial Group's overall business results by making recommendations that significantly improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Is a positive contributor to the team and uses solid interpersonal skills while interacting with co-workers
  • Performs daily monitoring of the environment to proactively and reactively address incidents in the production environment
  • Provides Day-2 support for all project-related implementations
  • Establishes strategic contacts with individuals, who can be beneficial to the achievement of work goals
  • Performs routine, proactive maintenance and administration
  • Identifies and delivers improvements to the departmental reporting obligations
  • Analyzes and resolves complex performance problems and outages to software products and systems support, escalating to and working with vendors as required
  • Participates in assigned projects following effective requirements, design, development and implementation processes
  • Is responsible for Incident & Problem Management, along with Root Cause Analysis
  • Participates in Disaster Recovery drills and ensures lessons learned are incorporated into plans for future drills or responses to real events
  • Delivers a highly available and stable messaging services environment
  • Identifies and escalates any potential bottlenecks that might present a threat to system security or user services
  • Contributes to departmental reporting obligations including capacity, usage, performance, and trend reporting, as defined with department management
  • Performs pro-active problem management to identify and resolve potential client-impacting issues in the production environment
  • Works with Messaging Engineering to provide operational requirements that result in a highly supportable production delivery of new technologies or production changes


Knowledge


  • Experience in working with Windows troubleshooting and performance tools
  • Demonstrates solid knowledge of IT industry directions/trends, related technology, architecture, protocols
  • Displays solid knowledge of ITIL processes including Problem and Change Management, and Configuration and Release Management
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge of relevant technology infrastructure (supported platforms, operating systems and networking components).
  • Strong knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP) along with various other messaging protocols
  • Must have hands-on minimum of 5-7 years working experience with Exchange 2013/2019 and/or Exchange Online. Must have in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Exchange along with messaging services
  • Possesses a university degree/college diploma in computer science and/or industry specific designations/accreditations, and/or 5 to 7 years of technical experience in an IT environment
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of working experience with email security/hygiene products (IronPort and/or Proofpoint)

WORKING CONDITIONS
