Description
For our studio in DowntownToronto,we are looking for a motivated and dynamicArchitect or Architectural Designer who has an in-depth knowledge of the world of design and architecture. You will have the experience and education to demonstrate superior creativity and insight within the parameters of structure and building requirements. You will apply this skill and knowledge in a diverse range of settings to support project goals.

This person will work closely with all members of the office including both the architecture and landscape architecture teams and will report directly to a partner. The work will include all aspects of a project from schematic design, design development, construction documents, tender, and construction administration. Projects will include multi-unit and single-family residential, commercial, entertainment, institutional, renovations and new construction, public realm, research and experimentation, and custom private commissions.
Responsibilities
- Prepare architectural drawings using Vectorworks, AutoCAD and other modeling software;
- Develop strong relationships with clients and internal teams;
- Assist senior staff in the completion of site visits/ building evaluations and reports.
- Support the production of supplemental drawings, specifications, and interpretations in response to requests for clarification by contractors/ owners;
- Develop designs and details with design intent, based on research and resolution of technical and design issues;
- Develop and prepare concept and design development materials and refine projects under guidance of a senior leader;
- Prepare presentations for meetings;
- Manage projects from concept through contract administration phases;
- Prepare and coordinate designs for permits and other approvals;
- Perform effective analysis of applicable building codes, by-laws and other regulations and technical documents/reports to which a project may be subject to;
- Manage and coordinate consultants;
- Other related duties will be assigned as required.
- Responsible for managing own work and ensuring it meets office standards and project deadlines;
Education and Experience Requirements
- Excellence in the following: traditional hand-drawing skills, technical construction document preparation (drawings and specifications);
- Project management experience including managing an internal team and project budgets;
- Ability to communicate design ideas and work collaboratively in a studio environment;
- A high level of graphic communication skills and spoken and written English;
- Demonstrated experience in project phases from schematic design, design development, construction documents, tender, and construction administration;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a studio environment;
- Comfortable working on a Mac platform and proficient in the use of the following software: AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Sketch up, PhotoShop, In-Design, Illustrator, and Keynote/PowerPoint;
- Excellent references;
- BArch and MArch or foreign equivalent;
- Familiarity with local building codes and authority approval processes;
- Licensed architect or architectural designer with 5+ years post-graduate professional office experience including coordinating, managing, and working on the design of small and medium-scale projects in restrictive urban settings, and with expertise in the following project types: institutional and commercial buildings, multi-unit housing, single-family residential, entertainment facilities, custom interiors, adaptive reuse projects and renovations;
- Demonstrated strong project management and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects in various stages of development;
- Legally allowed to work in Canada;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Work Environment:Full in-office or hybrid work arrangement.
