Job Description

Intern Architect/ Technologist

Full Time, Mid Level

Murphy Partners Seniors Housing Architects Inc (MPI) is a boutique firm in the burgeoning specialized field of SeniorsHousing. We are looking for candidates to help us with the production and project management. Join our growing architectural practice and work on long-term care and retirement homes around Ontario.

We are looking for someone who identifies with our core values: IMAGINATION, COMMITMENT, & DRIVE

We have a full work-from-home, flex time, 100 % Revit environment. You will work under the supervision of a Project Architect who will provide training and mentorship. Occasionally you will work with MPI’s founder who has 40 years of architectural experience. We appreciate good ideas and give credit when credit is due.

What you will be doing at MPI

·A small office requires a multi-skill approach to every project. You will be involved in production as well as project management and be given a full understanding of the project. Working at MPI provides a rounded experience for candidates in the early and middle stages of their careers.

·You will work on seniors housing projects including long-term care homes.

·Your main task will be to produce drawing packages following office standards and manuals.

·Production of drawings is done 100% with Revit. Familiarity with AutoCAD an asset.

·You will manage project files and communications.

·Project management tasks are done with Bluebeam Revu, MS office and Gmail.

·Drawing packages include Ministry of Long-Term Care submissions, SPA, permit, and IFC.

·You will conduct research on the Ontario Long Term Care Design Manual, municipal bylaws, and the Ontario building code.

·You will attend meetings with clients/consultants/AHJ and produce minutes of meetings.

·You will coordinate with consultant documents.

Required Qualifications

·Min. 3 years of experience in an Ontario architecture office, using Autodesk Revit is a must. Revit training in a 3 year college program + min. 1 year experience is an alternative

·MArch or Technologist Degree from a Canadian university or college is a must.

·Familiarity with excel and word is a must.

·Strong English and communication skills – able to deliver information succinctly and clearly. Cover letter will be requested of a successful candidate as part of the hiring process.

·Strong team player – respects their peers and supervisor’s time, asks questions when needed, shows initiative when appropriate, takes responsibility, and meets deadlines.

·Reliable home office environment and ability to respond quickly during work hours (8 to 5). Flexible workdays hours allowed as long as they are clearly communicated.

·Familiarity with the OBC and some GTA municipal bylaws is an asset.

·Familiarity with OPA/RZA/SPA/permit applications and/or the tender/IFC process is an asset.

·Work experience in seniors housing and long-term care is an asset.

·Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

The long-term care sector in Ontario has been rattled by long waiting periods before the pandemic and devastating situations during it. Recently the Health Standards Organization (HSO) and CSA Group released complementary and independent LTC standards, proposing higher bars than currently allowed by the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care. LTC architects live in interesting times. This opportunity is an exceptional career fit for a candidate’s ambitions to contribute to the evolving retirement home and long-term care sector.
