About the Role:


As part of the Placemaking team based in our Toronto campus, you will be part of a fast-paced team in a dynamic environment creating contemporary, inclusive, responsive, sustainable public and private high-quality spaces including civic plazas, parks, resorts, streetscape, cycle tracks and pedestrian centric placemaking projects. You will be involved in all phases of the project from master planning, consultation, conceptual design through to detailed design and contract administration.


Our team has developed a dynamic Carbon Modelling to which we use to inform impact of use of materials and its embodied carbon, during design stage and to calculate when the project would achieve carbon neutrality.


As the Senior Landscape Architect you’ll be working closely with our diverse team to bring creative projects to life that will make a difference on how we design and build our cities, no pressure though!

  • Ensure that a high level of professionalism and quality is communicated through everything you create.
  • Utilize strong communication skills, both visually and written, to convey ideas.
  • End to end project coordination/management of a diversity of projects.
  • Manage project workflows and oversee internal productions.
  • Help mentor junior team members.
  • Work in close collaboration with our Director and the Placemaking team to design a creative, context-sensitive urban and landscape solutions to support institutional, public and private sector projects.
  • Prepare design/technical reports.
  • Ensure project deliverables comply with local standards and contract requirements.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and develop top-notch and visually compelling graphic presentations and creative technical solutions.
  • Exercise creativity and innovative thinking in the creation of high-quality design solutions.
  • Thrive within a multi-disciplinary environment across different departments internally within IBI and collaborate with external Planners, Architects and Engineers to design and deliver creative, context-sensitive urban environments and landscape solutions that support public and private sector projects.


What We Are Looking For:


  • Proven leadership in design excellence with demonstrated high quality work that elevates design.
  • Creative, strategic, and crazy for design.
  • Able to articulate, present, and inspire others with your ideas.
  • If you happen to have previous experience in or knowledge of Parametric Design, it will be considered an asset
  • Above all else, a sharp creative eye. You live and breathe great design. We do care about your portfolio and we’re looking forward to seeing what you have!
  • Comprehensive experience in preparation of construction documentation, end to end project coordination/management in municipal, commercial and private sector projects.
  • Energetic and collaborative human with a can-do attitude, high degree of ownership and great work ethic.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of preparing reports and developing/writing design narratives.
  • Love writing proposals. We do a lot of them, so we’re hoping you’ll love doing them too.
  • We hope lots of good things, but here is a list to start, let us know what you are strong about:
  • In-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of the Landscape Architecture such as planting, grading, storm water management, construction detailing, specifications and cost estimation.
  • Super detail-oriented, able to multi-task and can work independently and take initiative within a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
  • Love participating in design competitions.
  • Possess strong communication and teamwork skills to work within multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Always on top of the latest design trends but what you produce is timeless. You are eager to push boundaries.


Qualifications


You'll need to have:


  • Are a Registered Landscape Architect from a component association with CSLA or ASLA is preferred
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Minimum of 7 years (post-graduation) of relevant working experience in a professional design firm
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited institution within the fields of Landscape Architecture.
  • Exceptional hand sketching and visualization skills.
  • Degree in Biology would be an asset
  • Have the latest version of AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and SketchUp in the palm of your hands.
  • Knowing Revit, Rhino or proficiency with other BIM or modelling tools would just be cherry on top.
