Job Description

We have an immediate opening for a full-time, permanent Payroll & Benefits Manager. The ideal candidate will have solid experience leading payroll processes and oversee the demands of a multiple legal entity payroll environment.


Responsibilities:


  • Ensure payroll information and employee records are accurate, up to date and properly maintained in database in accordance with company policies and procedures and statutory requirements
  • Oversee the day-to-day effective operations of the Payroll Department, always ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance with provincial legislations, collective agreements and polices and procedures
  • Act as liaison with all levels of management regarding payroll issues; support Finance and Operation and other cross function teams
  • Respond to employee payroll related questions and requests in a timely manner; own oversight of payroll inboxes
  • Maintain and develop policies and procedures
  • Preparation of GL journal entries; preparation of monthly payroll reports and ad hoc reports as requested; translation of payroll data into meaningful management reports
  • Work closely and support the HR team
  • Preparation of employment agreements and employee termination letters;
  • Provide leadership, coaching and technical guidance to the payroll team
  • Preparation of various budget reports and support HR, Operations and Finance during the annual budgeting process
  • Facilitate new hire orientation and other payroll and benefits related trainings, employee education and communications
  • Manage external inquiries and relationships with clients, external auditors and government bodies
  • Complete monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll reconciliations and filings on an accurate and timely basis including timely remittance of third party payments (government remittances, garnishments, union, etc)
  • Process and manage full-cycle payroll and related functions for 500+ employees under multiple payrolls, multi provincial, semi-monthly, hourly and salaried employees, union and non-union environments
  • Administration of Group Benefits Program including policy renewal


Required Skills:


  • Organized, detailed with exceptional time management skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information, professional demeanor under pressure and work effectively with employees at all levels
  • Sound knowledge of payroll concepts, federal and provincial legislation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and in writing, and the ability to communicate relevant information to all levels of the organization
  • Proficiency in problem solving, issue resolution
  • Ability to prioritize, plan and strong sense of urgency
  • Exceptional reporting and analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills including intermediate level knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP) with ability to analyze large amounts of data; familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • Highly motivated, independent and able to work within a team environment that is fast paced and rapidly changing


Required Experience:


  • Experience in multi-family residential property management an asset
  • 5 + years of experience leading a Payroll Department
  • 5+ years of experience working with cloud-based Payroll and HR systems (Payworks preferred)
  • Canadian Payroll Association's Certified Payroll Manager (CPM)
